JACKSONVILLE - Jalen Ramsey saw the area code, and he knew.

The "904" area code meant Jacksonville, and that meant being the No. 5 overall selection in the 2016 NFL Draft.

It also meant going where he wanted to go.

Ramsey, a cornerback/safety from Florida State University, on Thursday night was selected by the Jaguars with the No. 5 overall selection in the NFL Draft. It was a pick many believed the Jaguars would never get a chance to make, but it was one the Jaguars made quickly given the opportunity.

This pick fills a huge need for the roster and should be very popular with the in-state fans of FSU.

It's funny that Caldwell's last three 1st round picks were from Florida - UCF, UF, now FSU.

Ramsey's game is perfect for Bradley's scheme. I am really excited to see what Ramsey, a healthy Fowler, Jackson, Gipson, and Prince add to this defense.

I think picking from in-state also gets the fan base excited. Honestly if it wasn't for Bortles I probably wouldn't be interested in the Jags. I now follow them almost daily to keep up with the team.

I agree...getting arses in the seats are very important to this franchise and vital to keeping the team in Duval. I love Bortles...I would watch them anyway because I love the Jags.

But I always thought that if you grew up in a certain region and if the money was the same...why not draft players who grew up in the region that they are accustomed to. i.e. Winston and Tampa Bay, Ramsey, Blake and Jax.

Why would a young man from Oregon want to come to Miami to play amidst the weather and humidity and all. The money...yea! But if Seattle was paying the same, why would you do it?

Welcome to the board dirtymike.

There is something to be said about being close to home. It's comfortable and family life does matter.

Ramsay has the attitude that our D needs. Now we need to find a Leo. Hopefully in another hour we solve that problem.
