Odd Starting Times For First Pitch?

Post#1 » by Da Schwab » Wed Apr 25, 2007 10:11 pm

I've really just began to notice this about the Blue Jays and White Sox.

Both teams have weird times listed for their first pitch in home games:

Jays- usually 7 minutes after the hour
Sox- usually 11 minutes after the hour

Anyone know the reason for this?

I know the White Sox start their games at 7:11 because they have a conctract with 7-Eleven, the gas station. 7-Eleven gives the team money and in exchange, the White Sox start their games at 7:11... I don't know why the Jays start 7 minutes after the hour though.

Didn't the White Sox sell their starting time to 7/11? To start at 7:11?

Ah, beat me by 1 second :(

Now I know why the Sox do it... I just want to get to the bottom of the Jays reason.

It has to do with the odd exchange rate.

LOL

I'm not sure if this is correct but someone was telling me the games start later because they sing both national anthems. Maybe some Jays fans can clear this up.

The Braves start a half hour later because of traffic

Blue Jays Website wrote:All tapes or CDs should be professionally produced and include the "Star Spangled Banner" and "O Canada" without any musical accompaniment. The anthems must be performed in that order and separated by a three-second break. All submissions will be considered but only successful candidates will be contacted directly.

Closest thing I could find on the website.

well when the road team plays im sure the opposing teams announcers mention and its instilled in the back of there minds.

not to mention when this was initially announced it was talked about on sports talk so they got publicity for it.

I meant most people probably don't even realize that's the reason the white sox start at 7:11.
