Game Preview

"I'm one guy who basically lives for this," said Washington manager Manny Acta, whose team has a chance to sweep the Braves in a series for the first time since the Nationals moved from Montreal in 2005. "And I don't know if I would have made it to the ballpark today as a fan. I was surprised at the amount of people who showed up. The plan was, hey, we've got to be out there, so we might as well give it all and win the ballgame."

Braves RHP Hudson named NL Player of the Week

After allowing just one earned run in 14 innings, Atlanta Braves righthander Tim Hudson was named the National League Player of the Week on Monday.

Our bats need to help Smoltz tonight so we can tie the series and move on to better things.

Yes, very good! I see you're following my Mets too. Maybe too many people are underestimating the Nats this year - their PS looks to have a couple decent prospects and maybe Patterson can bounce back from his injury. The offense isn't horrible either with Demetrius Young - I was at the game on Saturday when he seemingly flicked his wrist and homered. Whatever happened to Nick Johnson though? Anyway, you can't be pleased losing two in a row to the Nats.

Nick Johnson broke his leg last year, still hasn't recovered.

Smoltz should put up zero's tonight, but we need timely hitting bad. We seem to be leaning on the homeruns too much thus the lack of runs. I think as soon as the weather starts to break you will see guys hitting better.

Glad to see some early hitting with RISP.

Also major props to the Nats for wearing the VT hats, awesome gesture.

Franky key ab's early, Johnson getting hits is a good sign.

Kudos to the Nats also for the VT hats

Great job by Kelly.

How the hell do we have 3 errors, just pathetic fielding.

It's nice to be able to go to a real closer in that type of situation, thank God for Wickman.

See how much better we are and how much better the game feels when Johnson is consistently on base?

Was that an aberration or do you expect that to be the norm?

Well I certainly don't expect Johnson to go 4-5 every night, I'd like to see the average stay above .260.

How's his speed and OBP? You think he's suited for that spot or even serviceable? I don't know - I didn't see a whole lot from him in the Mets series.

Actually decent speed and decent walk rate, he should stay serviceable.

IMO he is very serviceable and the best suited for the spot from the guys on the current roster. The game was more smooth with him on base but also we got key hits in key situations, plus great pitching out of the pen from Soriano and Wickman. Whats that 4 for 4 in save opps. Thats why I can't see how we can't make the playoffs or even win the division. We won 79 games last season while blowing 27 saves even if we convert half of those saves we win anywhere from 90-95 games. Not to knock the Mets season but our bullpen really hurt now that we think about it.
