Remind me, how is it ruining his career as a starter? Apparently you seem to know more than Nardi Contreras, Cashman, and everybody else involved in this decision. Fill me in, please.

the thing is though. gagne to BOS is huge. also gagne is a type a FA so you can get two high draft picks anyway. and plus that procter deal, you're now relying on a rookie to take his job. as good as he sounds, he's only a rook.

melky and clippard for gagne i think isn't a bad deal for NYY.

That's the problem when everyone in your farm system is so good and 'untouchable' that you aren't willing to part with them.

Opposed to teams that have a mediocre farm system like Boston. I don't see the logic. Oh well.

Obviously Cash thinks that these guys are going to bring us Championships.

starters have their own routine and pitch every 5 days and what not

relievers have to get up immediately and get warmed up and ready in the game ( totally diff than a starter, time is a limit)....then you come in and have to be on your game, no time to build up your rhythum, and then, you could be doing it again the night after....pitching back to back....its totally different......

risking his career with this move

You want to go down the list of starters who broke into the majors as a reliever? There are some pretty damn good ones. Letting young starters throw too many innings too soon kills more arms than letting them pitch out of the pen for some time.

I don't understand why. Gagne is a 2 month rental while Melky is a guy who can potentially be our everyday CF for years. He is a tremendous defensive CF, and since May he has hit about .320 with a .400 OBP and OPS around .830

I find it amusing that Baseball tonight is orgasming that Curt Schilling is coming back, Beckett turning 27 and getting Ortiz back from injury. Then on the Yankees they talk about how they have not done anything, obviously Hughes, Joba and getting guys like Doug and Giambi back mean nothing. What nonsense. -Jitpal

Not with Gagne's injury history and contract status.

Care to explain why, or is this one of your numerous baseless comments with no substance to back them up?

Liriano had about 6 arm injuries before last season, which is why the Giants were so willing to deal him. Try again

Does anybody else get tired of kandi too?

Kandi, you have no idea what you are talking about. Why don't you research some times before you open your mouth for once?

Gagne would of been nice to get, but I don't want him that bad to give up top young arms. May not work out for Boston, as well.

Steve Phillips, I don't usually like much. Sometimes he's right, but tends to exaggerate and be ignorant towards things. I think he's still agitated that the Mets lost to us in the WS in 2000. :P

Looks like it is final. Gagne waived his NTC and the Red Sox picked up the entire deal. -Jitpal

Please know what you are talking about before posting. How many quality minor leaguers have you graduated over the past 2 years to become good/all star quality starters with many more on the way....

All you guys have is Buchholz and Ellsbury right now that are ready to make an impact within a year.
