Giants (3-7) @ Pirates (4-6): April 13th-15th

Post#1 » by edney2polynice_ » Fri Apr 13, 2007 6:44 pm

Friday, April 13th

Russ Ortiz, RHP (0-1, 5.40) vs Zach Duke, LHP (1-0, 3.46)

-Ortiz allowed three runs on seven hits in five innings his last start; Ortiz has a 7-1 career record with a 2.93 ERA against the Pirates.

*Key hitters vs Ortiz: Jack Wilson (13 ABs, .462 BA, 5 BBs, 2 RBI) Jason Bay (13 ABs, .462 BA, 2 BBs, 3 RBIs) Xavier Nady (7 Abs, .429 BA)

-Duke allowed two runs over six-plus innings in his last start. He's the staff ace, so expect him to dominate our feeble hittiing.

*key hitters vs Duke: Aurilia (3-4, 1 HR, 3 RBIs), Lance Niekro (2-3, with a dbl)

Saturday, April 14

Barry Zito, LHP (0-2, 8.18) vs Tony Armas, RHP (0-1, 13.50)

Zito allowed eight runs over six innings his last start, he has a career 11-17 record and a 5.04 ERA in April. He usually starts slow.

*Key hitters vs Zito: No one on Pittsburg has faced Zito.

Armas In four innings walked five, gave up eight hits and six runs.

*key hitters vs Armas: Aurilia (15 ABs, .400 BA, 2 RBIs), Bonds (10 ABs, 2 HRs, 2 Doubles, 5 RBI's, 2 BBs), Vizquel (6 ABs, .500 BA, 1 HR, 3 RBIs)

Sunday, April 15

Matt Cain, RHP (0-1, 2.77) vs Ian Snell, RHP (0-1, 2.08)
Cain easily could be 2-0. He had one bad inning in his first start of the season. He is our staff ace - not zito - like it or not.

*key hitters vs Cain: no pittsburg player has more than 3 ABs vs Cain.

Snell had a career-high 11 strikeouts against Houston. He is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA against San Francisco, having scattered three hits in seven innings in a 2-0 shutout of the Giants on June 10, 2006.

*key hitters vs Snell: Dave Roberts (2-4, 2 doubles, 2 RBIs)

Pirates take 2 out of 3.

The Sunday game will be one of those 2-1 type games.

I think Cain will shut them down.

We'll win it 3-1.

At best, Giants go 1-2 with Cain getting the win. I look for Zito to pitch better away from the preasure of SF and maybe squeaking out a win. Cain's run production luck has got to change sooner or later doesn't it?

Zito is going up against Armas, and our players have done very well against him...so I think we'll give Zito 6+ runs to work with.

They'll probably find a way to somehow lose four games in this series.

Great game tonight. They seemed to have a little spunk in them today. Kind of like a kid coming downstairs on christmas. It was good to see. Lets hope they can keep it up.

Go Giants!
