2007 Draft Stuff

Who do you want to see the Fins select (for me, Brady Quinn would be great as an injection of enthusiasm and optimism for us Fins fans, but I don't think we'll get him) Who will make you vomit if we take him #9? (Ted Ginn for me - as Jim Mandich said on his talk show, he may be fast, but who do you see in the NFL as a WR with his dimensions 5'10, 170 lbs being a stud?)

The BPA! I am not a big fan of drafting for need, because it usually leads to a reach. I just want to see us go for offense. I want us to come out of the first four picks with a QB, a wideout, and a couple of offensive linemen.

I'm calling Mandich out as a hypocrite on this one, as I doubt he was saying the same things about Sinorice and Santana Moss...

Not Ted Ginn.

Hard to pass on Quinn if he's available.

If we draft a defensive player, i would kill myself. thought i usually would say BPA, our defense is much stronger than our offense. so BPA on offense :P.

I can't argue with those picks, what happened with Branch? Where has he fallen to after bad preliminary workouts? I remember seeing him as a possible selection at #9 for the Dolphins a couple weeks ago.

Murphy says Branch has looked bad in workouts and out of shape to boot.... not a good combination

Move up and select Calvin Johnson!!! That alone would make the Fins' draft a success!!!

This draft is getting harder and harder to predict. As of today the Dolphins biggest need is on offense particulary offensive line. Cam Cameron and his San Diego offensive staff have done wonders with young late round lineman such as Shane Olivea and Marcus McNeil. Turning them into quality starters. I just dont see them reaching for a lineman especially one that seems more suited to playing Right Tackle. Ryan Harris of Notre Dame is actually a really nice pick n the second round. Dolphins really need to go BPA with there pick at number 9. I agree if one of the stud defensive lineman are on the board you have to jump on one. The last few years they have invested time on some Nose Tackles like Wright and Vickerson so I dont think the need will be there for a Nose Tackle like Okoye or Branch. What the team needs is someone to put opposite of Holliday on the other end. I am a fan of Carriker or Anderson for that spot. The team could go defense the 1st rd and offense the rest of the way.

Here is a stab at my mock draft top 10

1. Raiderse- QB Jemarcus Russell LSU

2. Bucs(trade with Lions)- WR Calvin Johnson Georgia Tech

3. Browns- QB Brady Quinn Notre Dame

4. Lions(trade with Bucs) OT Joe Thomas Wisconsin

5. Cardinals- DE/OLB Gaines Adams Clemson

6. Chicago(trade with Skins)- DT Amobi Okoye Louisville

7. Minnesota Vikings- RB Adrian Peterson Oklahoma

8. Atlanta Falcons- S Laron Landry LSU

9. Miami Dolphins- DE Jammal Anderson Arkansas

10. Houston Texans- OT Levi Brown Penn State

3-4 Defense front

OLB Joey Porter LB Zach Thomas LB Channing Crowder OLB Jason Taylor

DE Jammal Anderson NT Keith Traylor DE Vonnie Holliday

Haven't seen this post yet, FWIW:

''There are only two things that matter on offense -- how you take care of the football and how many points you score,'' Cameron said. ``It's not going to happen overnight, but it's just going to take some time, offensively, to get where we want.''

Indeed, the Dolphins made some serious additions in the past month. But perhaps even more telling about the future than any of the additions were many of the subtractions.

Miami added linebacker Joey Porter and re-signed defensive tackle Vonnie Holliday. Kicker Olindo Mare was replaced with Jay Feely. And the Dolphins picked up a solid fullback in Cory Schlesinger.

Then there were the losses. If each of the former Dolphins sent packing in the past month joined forces on the same field, they might be able to field a pretty decent offense.

Nonetheless, when it comes to Cameron and offensive production, decent just doesn't cut it.

''It's March,'' Cameron said. ``Do you know how easy it would be to come in here and give everybody a pep talk and get everybody all fired up? But we've got a lot of work to do.''

There's only one problem: Even in the waning days of free agency, many new vacancies on the roster remain empty. So far, the five departed offensive linemen have been replaced by only one (guard Chris Liwienski). And Ricky Williams -- if he even gets reinstated -- is the only legitimate backup running back on the roster after Sammy Morris and Travis Minor signed elsewhere.

That brings up a pressing question: with few free agents left to sign, what happens next? No reason for fear, Cameron said. It's part of the plan.

With more picks in the draft (and more flexibility) than each of the past two seasons, such a plan could actually work. With the salary cap in good shape and the roster ready for additions, Cameron and general manager Randy Mueller will have the chance to prove it.

''It's easy to get excited about free agency,'' Cameron said. ``But we're going to build this team through the draft.''

Would you guys trade down if it could net us another 2nd or 3rd round pick? How far down?

by Lane1974
depends -- if the guys they are dying to have at 9 are gone, move down to the middle of the 1st (13-17ish) and get another 2 or 3? I'd do it. Still in position to get Alan Branch, or one of the lesser regarded OT (Joe Staley or something) or if they like Ted Ginn or a WR, or Greg Olson the TE, or one of the DBs they can get him at that spot.

I think Mueller likes wheeling and dealing (in either direction)

Branch, Staley, or Olson with the first, and 4 2nd/3rd round picks to use on the line, QB, etc?

Yeah I'd do that too.

ESPN.com wrote:Samuel talking trade
<Apr. 5> Frustrated over the lack of progress in his contract negotiations with the Patriots, Samuel told the NFL Network Wednesday night that he'll seek a trade if things don't pick up.

"This is to let everybody know that I'm not happy anymore and things are not going well," Samuel said. "At first I thought it was going well, but it's not.

"We have a difference of opinion in my value. They think I'm worth one price and the other teams think I'm worth a lot more. If a long-term deal can't be done at fair numbers for me and New England, then I want to be traded."

Samuel, the Patriots' franchise player, has watched other cornerbacks cash in this offseason. Nate Clements received an eight-year, $80 million deal from San Francisco, and Dre' Bly signed a five-year deal with Denver that included $16 million in bonuses and guarantees. Samuel has the right to negotiate with other teams, but the the price of acquiring him would be a pair of first-round picks.

Would love to see him out of the division, but could also potential net the Pats a couple good picks. Almost seems like the kind of thing they'd do, 2 for 1, based on how good their scouting is and how much money it'd save them.

I think as of now the ideal draft for the Dolphins would look like this.

1.(9) OT Levi Brown Penn State
2.(40) C Ryan Kalil USC
2.(60) WR Jason Hill WSU or WR Craig Davis LSU or Aundrae Allison ECU
3.(71) QB Trent Edwards Stanford

4th-7th Best defenders left on the board.

This draft formula follows the same blueprint as of the Jets last year that helped turn there season around. Brown and Kalil are immediate starters. Hadnot can move back to guard where his more natural position is at. Hill is a burner and Edwards is someone they can develop.

Sun Sentinel wrote: Dolphins coach Cam Cameron and General Manager Randy Mueller are hitting the road to personally scout the top two quarterbacks in this year's NFL Draft.

A source said Cameron and Mueller will visit today with Louisiana State's JaMarcus Russell before heading to meet Tuesday with Notre Dame's Brady Quinn.

"I think they are great talents," Mueller said of Russell and Quinn while evaluating both at the NFL Scouting Combine in February. "I'm anxious to see a lot of [top prospects] go through the spring, how they handle it, how they work out."
