Ricky reportedly tests positive for pot (update page 2)

Barry Jackson - Miami Herald wrote:Dolphins running back Ricky Williams, who has applied for reinstatement to the NFL, told ESPN Radio on Friday that he hasn't gotten high on drugs ''in maybe three years,'' and has no need to resume using marijuana because yoga has eased his stress.

On April 26, 2006, Williams was suspended for one year by the NFL for violating its drug policy. He said reinstatement involves sending a hand-written letter to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and having a clinical evaluation.

''For the most part, as long as you follow the rules, you have a pretty good shot to be reinstated,'' Williams said. ``Half of it is testing and the other half is you have to talk to someone on a weekly basis.''

Asked by radio host Dan Patrick the last time he was tested, Williams said, ''Two minutes ago.'' Patrick asked if he passed. ''Sure, yeah,'' Williams said.

Ricky Williams: Yoga, not drugs

With his reinstatement looming and all of the other hoopla, I figured we should have a thread about him. What are you guys expecting (if anything)? By all accounts he's clean and ready to go, I personally welcome him back and think that he'd do a fine job giving the offense some more options and taking some of the load off of Ronnie.

I'd love to have him back -- he apparently had issues with Wanny leaning on him so much to be the entire offense -- he should thrive as a backup, like he did in 2005. His talent > Ronnie's talent. I'd expect big things from him in a split time role, if (always a big if) his head is on straight

I also would like to have Ricky back. The Brown/Williams duo worked out great.

Alex Marvez - Sun Sentinel wrote: Ricky Williams is six days from being eligible for reinstatement to the NFL, but the suspended running back may have to wait until after the draft April 28-29 before being able to officially rejoin the Dolphins.

Williams was banned from the NFL on April 25, 2006 after losing an appeal of a fourth failed drug test. Agent Leigh Steinberg said Wednesday that Williams has sent a letter asking for reinstatement to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and is undergoing regular drug testing under the NFL's auspices.

Under the NFL's substance-abuse policy, Williams would continue getting tested after reinstatement at a frequency determined by the league's medical advisor.

"He's been passing the tests steadily, and I don't expect any problem," Steinberg said.

Chatter amongst the Rams is that they'd like to get their hands on Ricky, but considering that we still haven't addressed any of our own RB problems, I'm not sure why they should look into that.

Unless we get a 3rd rounder or better as compensation, keep him.

I wouldn't trade Ricky. His value as a runner won't be able to be recouped via the draft, b/c his lack of reliability will cut any value you could get for him. In terms of value per dollar, he's gonna be more important to the franchise than anyone drafted or signed this offseason.

With today's drafting of a RB, I think Ricky is done as a Dolphin :(

I doubt. The guy they drafted doesn't project to be any more than a 3rd-down back/special teamer ace.

I agree
plus, they can really only count on Ricky as a year to year guy

Booker becomes the new Travis Minor, on special teams and as a third down back, at least until Ricky is gone

we lost Travis AND Sammy Morris this offseason

Booker is better than Minor.

That's probably true, but beside the point. We're talking more about role on the team, which is change-of-pace scat back/3rd down back/special teamer....

Soon I'd think, he hasn't officially been granted reinstatement from the NFL yet, has he?

Of course, Cam hasn't commented on him whatsoever either.

Interesting commentary on Ricky..

PalmBeachPost.com wrote:The Miami Dolphins still are on the clock in this quirky NFL Draft, eager to see what they ultimately will get from their first-round picks in 2002 and 2003.

This is what happens, of course, when a franchise builds its future around Ricky Williams. Somehow, it always winds up being about the past.

Miami got Ricky from New Orleans five years ago in exchange for a 2002 first-round pick and a conditional pick that wound up being worth another first-rounder in 2003 because Ricky passed 1,500 rushing yards in his debut Dolphins season. He kept right on going, too, all the way to 1,853, a team record and the best in the NFL that year.

Where Ricky has been since then and what he has done would take too long to detail right now. Same goes for the Dolphins, who have gone from Dave Wannstedt to Nick Saban to Cam Cameron as head coaches since 2004, when Ricky first headed off to Australia and India and a holistic medicine school in California to better connect with the universe and all its fascinating herbs.

Dolphins, Ricky are made for each other

Screw it with Williams at this point. Brown is our guy and Booker will be a solid backup watch and see.

Ricky tests positive once again on drug test

Miami Dolphins running back Ricky Williams tested positive for marijuana in April and will not be allowed to apply for reinstatement to the NFL until September, sources told ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

Williams
Williams was suspended last year for violation of the substance abuse policy and was eligible to be reinstated this month, but the league's medical advisors that oversee Williams' personal rehabilitation program recently notified commissioner Roger Goodell of the positive test, sources said.

The doctors also recommended that Williams not be allowed to apply for reinstatement until September, sources said. The commissioner usually adheres to the advice of the medical advisors under the substance abuse policy.

"Falling off the wagon is part of rehab," a source said. "Based on the medical evidence in Ricky's case, the doctors say it's too early to come back. He had the positive test last month. Remember, he's been diagnosed with social anxiety disorder -- that's a real disease and a good percentage of those folks self-medicate with substances like marijuana, often at the moment they are about to have a high level of social interaction."

League spokesman Greg Aiello said the NFL would have no comment, as did Dolphins spokesman Harvey Greene.

David Cornwell, an attorney who has represented Williams during his substance abuse cases, said he would honor the confidentiality policies in effect with another no comment.

he obviously didn't want to come back, that's his typically passive aggressive way of dealing with this

nice knowing you Ricky
