I thought Reed was going to get cut after running that awful route at the end of Thursday's game, when he went on the outside of the corner back instead of taking the inside to use his height advantage. What the hell Cam?

As excited as I was when we first signed Schlessinger, I don't remember him laying anyone out during preseason. He didn't clear much runway for our running backs, whiffed on defensive assignments, and when given the ball, couldn't gain an inch. If Cam thinks he's lost too much in the way of explosion and athleticism, so be it. And if he really was in direct competition with Cobbs, as the Sentinel suggests, I'd rather keep Cobbs because I very much doubt he'd clear waivers. And it'll give us a chance to see what we have in Reagan Mauia.

Hakim's not too big of a surprise. His fate was sealed when we drafted Ginn.

I was cautiously intrigued by the size of Julius Wilson and Stephen Parker (they're both giants at 6'4"), but the O-Line opened up like a flood gate whenever Wilson was in the game. I thought Marquay Love played reasonably well against New Orleans, but he had no shot at making the team anyway. With Tala Esera and Brian Soi gone, this team is short two Samoans.

Kinda sad to see P.K. Sam go. I assumed he'd done more than Kerry Reed this preseason, but I guess I'd be wrong.

Figured Courtney Anderson was enough of a playmaker to keep around. But Cam wouldn't cut Justin Peele and no one would bother wasting a roster spot on a 3rd TE.

Robert McCune looked good on Thursday, but there was never a chance for him to stick anyway.

I'm sure no one will claim Gibran Hamdan, so he'll make it back to our practice squad.

I didn't realize Moses Malone's son was still with us.

And we lost one of the more unique names on our roster, Tuff Harris.

I am sure we'll pick up one or two claims on the OL or defensive secondary

There are a couple different ways to react to the Hakim/Schlessinger cuts.

1-Those guys really have lost so much that they're not worth keeping around

2-The young guys (Ginn, Mauia) have looked so good that they became redundant.

3-The staff decided that we're probably not going to be that good this year regardless, so might as well keep as many young, developing players as possible.

I think with Hakim, its some mix of 1&3 (Greg Camarillo? Really?)

But with Schlessinger, I think there's another factor: I read somewhere that in practice they've been lining up Ronnie Brown in the H-back slot, with Chatman as the primary RB, like he was so often used in college, and like Reggie Bush was used in NO and how LT was often-paired with Turner in SD under one Cam Cameron. I actually thought we'd be using him in that capacity a lot back when it seemed like Ricky was coming back, but then put that out of mind when Ricky had another marijuana melt-down.

But with Chatman emerging in preseason, it makes sense, no?

That, in turn, reduces the need for blocking backs tremendously, since so many of your 2-back sets will be with Brown/Chatman sharing the load, or maybe Brown at RB with Booker in the H-back slot.

Much rather see Brown and Booker together than Chatman and Brown.

I appreciate why, but Brown has excelled in the H-back role previously, and Booker isn't necessarily who you want lining up in a single-back formation.

I just think Booker can be ued in a Reggie Bush type of role for this team.

I agree, which is why I think we'll see both: Brown used in the Bush/LT role, with Chatman in the Deuce/Turner role, and Booker used in the Bush/LT role, with Brown in the Deuce/Turner role.
