All things considered (releasing Fred Evans, Cam Cameron's love of family and character, Randy Mueller being the guy who traded Ricky away from NO), this actually sounds semi-promising:
Hours after being reinstated by the NFL, Ricky Williams was invited by the Dolphins to meet with team officials Thursday but was not given a definite verdict on whether he's in the team's plans, agent Leigh Steinberg said Wednesday.
Steinberg said Dolphins executive Matt Thomas did not unequivocally tell him whether Williams would be retained by the Dolphins, but did not give him any impression to the contrary.
''It was a welcoming discussion and encouraging with respect to Ricky,'' Steinberg said. ``There was no discussion of anything but a return to the Dolphins.''
Steinberg said Williams will fly to Miami and meet with coach Cam Cameron and other team officials Thursday. He said Williams can begin practicing as early as Friday.
Williams would like to play for the Dolphins if given the chance, his agent said. ''Ricky has been on pins and needles waiting for this day,'' Steinberg said. ``He's highly motivated to play.''
