Early Bird Mock Drafts

Post#1 » by OAKTREE NYK1 » Fri Jan 4, 2008 5:42 pm

I am aware about the coin toss for 3,4,5 but I think we can still have a little top 10 fun

1. Kansas City Cheifs(Trade with Miami Dolphins)- OT Jake Long Michigan

* Kansas City swaps 1st round pick and includes this years second,5th, and next years second.

Pending where the Cheifs select during the coin flip I am pretty certain they are going to burn up the phone lines and give Parcells an offer he cant refuse. The Cheifs need to protect here young gunslinger and really arent that far away from competing again in the AFC West. Finding a left Tackle like long will be there top priority and they are going to need to jump ahead of St. Louis to get him. The Rams may make a decent offer but I think the Cheifs will offer the house.

2. St. Louis Rams- DT Glenn Dorsey LSU

They have a pressing need for offensive lineman but I think since Long is off the board they will take the next best player availible. They are getting a healthy Pace back and Barron is moving back to RT so they basically can worry about getting depth in the later rounds. They can move Carriker back to his natural end spot and Dorsey and be there monster in the middle.

3. Miami Dolphins (Trade with Cheifs)- DE Chris Long Virginia

Of course this is pending a coin flip but I think Chris Long will be availible wether the Phins pick 3 thru 5. Parcells gets some extra picks to rebuild but also the player he covets to anchor the end spot of his 3-4 defense.

4. Oakland Raiders- RB Darren McFadden Arkansas

Al Davis is going to want him bad and the team needs a RB since they plan on letting Fargas walk and release Lamont Jordon.

5. Atlanta Falcons- QB Andre Woodson Kentucky

Many people will say Matt Ryan but I actually think Woodson has the higher ceiling. 6'5 230 with a power arm and can move around the pocket. He will be the new face of the Atlanta franchise.

6. N.Y. Jets- DE/OLB Vernon Gholston Ohio State

Jets need defense and someone to put on the other side of Bryan Thomas.

7. Baltimore Ravens- QB Matt Ryan Boston College

Ravens need something from the QB spot and it's time to give Boller some competition.

8. New England Patriots- ILB James Laurinitis Ohio State

Rich getting Richer.

9. Cincy Bengals- DT Sedrick Ellis USC

Team needs defensive help all the away around.

10. Denver Broncos- LB Dan Connor Penn State

There run defense was terrible and this will allow them to move D.J. back to the strong side. I can see them trying to trade up for Ellis or Laurinitis though.

IThink if miami moves back they should take James L the MlB from ohio state.AS much as i think long is going to be a good pro we really need a Young LB.Rod Wright,Roth,Jason taylor can handle the DE for one more year. Also mosley didnt look all that bad down the season. Also i think St louis would Give up there 3 round this year and nextyear if they hear Chiefs are about to jump them for Long.I for one just Stay with the First pick and DRaft Jake long and have one the best O-Lines in the NFL

We NEED a LOT of things. We should go with the BEST player available when we pick.

Best player availible is actually Darren McFadden but he really isnt a need for the team. Best player to pick at the #1 spot for the Phins woud be Jake Lohg. Glenn Dorsey is too small to play nose in the 3-4 and trying to say he is a better end then Chris Long as a 3-4 end is a stretch. Parcells wants to clean house and release a ton of players so in order to do so he needs plenty of draft picks. He will hold Jake Long ransom at #1 becaue teams like St. Louis and the Cheifs need him badly. It's going to take more then one Jake Long to fix the problems on this team. Parcells will build a solid defense through the draft this year. I have never known for Parcells to reach for offensive lineman with his first pick. I think they prefer to get them late and then groom them.

Considering we just re-upped Williams, and from what's being mentioned about Brown (Mortensen and Clayton), all being positive; it would be useless to pick up McFadden in the 1st place.....

I should've said besides McFadden in my OP.

nicely done mock draft... im hoping we stick w/the #1 pick or else trade down w/someone else in the top 3, i would LOVE to have either jake long or glenn dorsey.... long for obvious reasons, u cant have a good offense w/out a good oline (i beleive in beck, if he can recieve the damn snap), and dorsey could be an end in the 3-4, maybe someone like richard seymour? and solai hopefully will develop into the NT we need.... so PLEASE bill, sure up the lines!

Good linebackers will fall in the second round. If Parcells plays his cards right and is able to nab a third 2nd rounder by trading out of the first pick this could be a huge draft for the Phins. If he stays put and grabs Jake Long then the offensive line is set. With Tony Sparano being a big offensive line guy I can see where he will lobby hard for Long to put on his left side to protect young Beck. Left Tackles like Long are so hard to get you usually need a top five pick to get one like him. Teams like the Cheifs and Rams might be a player like Long away from getting them into the playoffs much like Thomas did for the Browns or atleast close to getting into the playoffs as the Browns got snubbed.

If Sparano becomes coach, he's going to look at film of Vernon Carey's season, and he's going to be like 'damn son, this guy's a pro bowl LT! why would i draft a right tackle wif da 1st pick?'

Carey is a good tackle. Jake Long is a dominat tackle. Worth shipping Carey back to RT.

Carey is gone if you move him back to RT because other teams will pay him LT money to play him at LT. And then you're left with no LT and an excellent RT in Jake Long.

I understand where you think that Jake Long might be a better RT then LT but did you happen to see him pass block versus some of the fastest ends in football when they just recently faced the Gators. Jake Long is actually a prototypical LT for a Parcells run team because he stresses run first then pass. I think Long has enough potential to be great with some coaching. I see that you are truly high on Carey being the LT but truth is he even prefers playing on the right side and only made the move because of extreme team needs. A line with Long,Satele, and Carey would help us dominante the line of scrimmage on a more consistent basis. In the end I think that the team has so many needs that if the right deal comes along for number 1 Parcells is shipping it out. DE Chris Long is a cant miss prospect and would go a long way to rebuilding this pathetic defense. Bill will draft lineman late and develop them much like they did in Dallas. I dont think anyone on there line is a 1st rounder.

Here goes a revised Mock draft with no Miami trade

1. Miami Dolphins- DE Chris Long Virginia

Long is certainly worthy of this selection as I think he is as much a cant miss prospect as anyone in this draft. He will fit in perfectly at end in the 3-4 scheme and could even play some OLB if need be. With his strong bloodlines and of course his college coach being Al Groh who just so happens to be really close with the Tuna this player just makes so much sense for the Phins. Parcells will look into trade options but I dont think anyone wants the burden of paying #1 type money so he will have to make the selection here. Long will earn every single penny of his contract.

2. St. Louis Rams- DT Glenn Dorsey LSU

This may be a trade out spot for the Rams but with Chris Long coming off the board they will have Dorsey fall into there lap. Rams are running a hybryd 4-3/3-4 defense so Dorsey will play 4-3 Tackle and probably end on third downs. Jake Long could be the pick here but with tons of money invested in Pace and with Barron on the other side they are just better off getting offensive line help later in the draft.

3. Oakland Raiders- RB Darren McFadden Arkansas

Al Davis will not pass up on McFadden. He is a physical specimen at RB and envisions him being the teams Adrian Peterson. Lamont Jordon was in the dog house all year and is expected to be released. Fargas was a nice player but not of the magnitude of RUN DMC.

4. Atlanta Falcons- QB Matt Ryan Boston College or QB Andre Woodson KY

As the draft gets closer the Falcons will be deciding out of these two QB's to select. With Atlanta's high African American fan base they might go on to select Woodson to make him the new face of the franchise to replace Vick. I actually think Woodson's upside is great and you will see him shine at the combines increasing his stock to a top 5 pick.

5. Kansas City Cheifs- OT Jake Long Michigan

Cheifs will be feeling rather lucky to see Long fall into this spot.

6. N.Y. Jets- DE/OLB Vernon Gholston Ohio State

Seems to be a perfect fit for there defensive needs.

7. New England Patriots- ILB James Laurinitis Ohio State

If they dont trade down then this is the obvious pick as they need to find replacements for life after Bruschi and Vrabel.

8. Baltimore Ravens- QB Matt Ryan B.C. or QB Andre Woodson KY

They will get the QB leftover that the Falcons pass on.

9. Cincinatti Bengals- DT Sedrick Ellis USC

There very medicore defense needs an upgrade.

10. New Orleans Saints- CB Mike Jenkins South Florida

This pick will be secondary that I cam assure you. Might even be a spot for Kenny Phillips.
