Updated Mock Draft as of 1-17-2008

1. Miami Dolphins- DE Chris Long Virginia

I am expecting Parcells to go after his old Left Tackle in free agency in Flozell Adams. He should be there for the taking since the Boys have many young lineman they have been grooming for the spot. That leaves the defense to be built via the draft. Chris Long is exactly the type of hard nosed player this team needs. Parcells close ties to Al Groh and Long's pedigree and experience playing 3-4 end making him the top consensus pick for the Phins.

2. St. Louis Rams- DE/OLB Vernon Gholston Ohio State

They are rumblings of Haslett wanting to change over to a 3-4 defense and Gholston would be a hit in any style of defense he wants to play. Jake Long might go here but then this is also a nice trade spot for them.

3. Oakland Raiders- DT Glen Dorsey LSU

Al Davis will be tempted to take McFadden but there defense was so terrible that they cant pass up on Dorsey in this spot to take over for Warren Sapp. Deep running back class will pave the way for this selection. Also dont count out late pick of last year Michael Bush making some noise in there camp this year.

4. Atlanta Falcons- RB Darren McFadden Arkansas

The city of Atlanta needs a new face and someone to start filling up that stadium again and McFadden is certainly the name to get it done.

5. Kansas City Cheifs- OT Jake Long Michigan

They will be pleased to see the player they covet fall to them to fix there offensive line woes.

6. New York Jets- FS Kenny Phillips Miami

There secondary continues to be a problem and they have no one really to speak of playing the free safety spot for there defense. Next in the long line of great Hurricane safety's.

7. Baltimore Ravens- QB Matt Ryan Boston College

Ravens have needs but none can be bigger then the glaring hole at QB. Boller is awful and McNair is on his last leg. Smith looked okay but they certainly need an upgrade and Ryan is the guy.

8. New England Patriots- CB Michael Jenkins South Florida

With Samuel on the way out the Pats need to start reloading in there secondary. I have a feeling they trade out of this spot and continue to stock pile draft picks for years and years. Either way Jenkins has to be on there radar.

9. Cincinnatti Bengals- OLB Keith Rivers USC

Probably the worst linebacking core in the NFL needs to start getting in players to produce.

10. New Orleans Saints- DT Sedrick Ellis USC

Antwan Lake and Hollis Thomas are not going to get in done as your DT's.

11.Buffalo Bills- WR Limas Sweed Texas

Bills are sorely lacking in a big tall wideout to throw the jump ball. Sweed would team up nicely with speedsters Evans and Parrish.

12. Denver Broncos- ILB Dan Conner Penn State

This will allow them to move DJ Williams back to the outside.

13. Carolina Panthers- QB Brian Brohm Louisville

This team will not endure another QB fiasco like they did last year. They need insurance in case Delhomme cannot comeback from Tommy John sugery. Brohm is the best bet here.

14. Chicago Bears- OT Ryan Clady Boise State

Now they can get rid of the waste of space they call Fred Miller.

15. Detroit Lions- OT Jeff Otah Pitt

Gaping hole at RT should be filled in nicely with the massive Otah.

16. Arizona Cardinals- DE Calais Campbell Miami

Pefectly suited to line up at end in there newly installed 3-4 defense.

17. Minnesota Vikings- DE Derrick Harvey Florida

Speed edge rusher the team sorely needs.

18. Houston Texans- RB Rashard Mendenhall Illinois

Lights out rusher who should team up nicely with the other young weapons on the Texans offense.

19. Philadelphia Eagles- WR DeSean Jackson Cal

Explosive playmaker who adds another deep threat for Donavan McNabb.

20. Tampa Bay Bucs- QB Andre Woodson Kentucky

Gruden loves QB's and knows Garcia cant chuck the rock forever. Woodosn will be Gruden's new pet project.

21. Washington Redskins- WR Malcolm Kelly Oklahoma

Big physical wideout to put next to tiny tots Randle El and Moss.

22. Dallas Cowboys- RB Felix Jones Arkansas

Jerry Jones pick here but also the replacement for the departing Julius Jones.

23. Pittsburgh Steelers- FS Reggie Smith Oklahoma

Lets not forget there safety Antonio Smith who was lit up by the patriots. they need someone to play along side Polamalu.

24. Tennessee Titans- WR Mario Manningham Michigan

They really dont have many needs expect trying to find a decent wideout.

25. Seattle Seahawks- RB Johnathan Stewart Oregon

Might mean that Shaun Alexander's days will soon be numbered.

26. New York Giants- CB Aquib Talib Kansas

With not that many needs I think the Giants go for the BPA and with Madison on his last leg they may be in the need for a third corner.

27. Jacksonville Jaguars- WR Early Doucet LSU

Still in need of playmakers at WR.

28. San Diego Chargers- RT Gosder Cherilus Boston College

Olivea was benched and they where left playing a 6th rounder on the right side so someone in needed to step in.

29. Dallas Cowboys- CB Leodis McKlevin Troy

Cover corner to bring them some depth. Also reunites him with former college mate Demarcus Ware.

30. San Francisco 49ers- DE/OLB Quentin Groves

Gives them another speedy OLB in there 3-4 defense to team with Willis.

31. Green Bay Packers- CB Jake Ikegunwonu Wisconsin

Team needs depth at corner so they take the hometown college

32. Patriots forfeit

2nd Round 1st pick

Miami Dolphins- TE John Carlson Notre Dame

Parcells teams always stress the TE so they certainly have to upgrade over David Martin. Also remember the ties Parcells has with Weiss.

So my two top picks for the Dolphins netted

1. DE Chris Long Virginia

2. TE John Carlson Notre Dame

Not a bad start to the draft getting the best 3-4 defensive end the also the top TE coming out. Both are hard workers and leaders. Just what Parcells looks for. The rest of the draft will consist of grabbing secondary and linebackers.

Good stuff, do you really think the phins will pass on Dorsey? All the mock draft sites seem to disagree. Im still hoping they can trade down and pick up a few more picks.

Most mock drafts are not taking into account the kind of systems that are played. Glen Dorsey is more in the mold of a Warren Sapp type of three technique DT. He is more suited to play in the 4-3 then he is in the 3-4. At 6'1 305 he is just too small to play the Nose in the 3-4 and not natural enough a pass rusher to play the end. Long at 6'4 284 has all the tools to be a DE in the 3-4. He's played it in college and certainly can add more weight to get up into the 290's. Much like Aaron Smith of the Steelers.

I think if we move back a couple of spots we can pickup a 4 round pick or 3 for jake long or McFadden. Those people will give up alil to ensure them selfs one of those 2.Also People say that The bengels will be shopping ocho cinco,if true send them our second we got from chargers and a 5 round pick. Then our offense will have a legit 1,2 on the edges.Wow the speed! Ginn and Ocho cinco would be crazy...I'm dreaming but wow look at the team addition if that happend

Chris Long--Future DE
John Carlson--TE--Witten clone..
Ocho Cinco-Big time WR...

Then we go get Haynessworth or Asunte samuel...I could see this thing turned around alot faster then most think. Y.Bell comes back from injury. Jason allen finally plays full time. Rodriq Wright and Chris long on the outside DE.Move Jason Taylor to LB. Sign F.Adams. The rest of the Draft we target D,D and more D.

that would be nice, but just saw on sportscenter that cincy is not gonna trade chad... for now... as for haynesworth i doubt theres any chance tennessee lets him go.he's their defensive mvp... as for everything else u said, its all possible... at first i was all over the dorsey bandwagon, but i watched the NC game and he definitly didnt stand out to me... for me its gotta be either of the Longs, but seeing that parcells loves to draft defense first chris would be a nice addition and if flozell adams came over? sheeeeeeeeiiiiiit look out for our line next year

I dont think the Boys are going to open there wallets for Flozell since they are pretty high on Doug Free and Pat McQuistan. We on the other hand have plenty of money to throw at him and offer him the opportunity to play for his old line coach in Sparano and old boss in Parcells. Adding the Hotel to this line will instantly make it a force. Moving Carey back to RT and Shelton back to RG will be the makings of a massive line. Carey and Shelton played really really well the last time they where teamed up on the right side.

Nobody is going to trade with us. The 1st pick is too much of a financial burden. Chris Long will be the pick and he is a very good pick.

I really seriously beleive that Jason Taylor will be dealt for a 3rd round draft pick. Could conceivably see him on the Denver Broncos next year or even the Cleveland Browns. I can really envision them taking a gamble on Matt Roth playing OLB in the 3-4. Roth actually started at linebacker at Iowa and then moved to end. His potential can finally be unlocked playing rush end in the 3-4.

I wouldn't trade JT for just a 3 -- he still performs at a high level, and he is the type of pass rusher Parcells loves... Roth has been a disappointment so far in his career, and he was a 2...

Huizenga owes it to Taylor to trade him to a contender. A return to Ohio to play for the Browns who are just a couple of players away from making some real noise makes a ton of sense. Possibly a move to the Rams to play for coach Linehan or the Redskins.

Well a three is just about all I think they can get for Taylor because of his age. Phins are a couple of years away and by that time I think Taylor will be done. Parcells would love Taylor if he was atleast 5 years younger. I think even Taylor knows this is his last stint with the Phins. New Regime means major changes and I think Taylor will be a goner. If Parcells can get more for Taylor more power too him but I dont think he plays with the Phins next year. Parcells will look to draft his next Demarcus Ware. He already has a veteran in Porter on the other end and once again the focus is on the defense getting younger.

I don't think trading JT is a given. Parcells always liked hard working veterans on his teams to help lead the young players he was bringing in. Remember Bryan Cox with the Jets, Bledsoe with Dallas, Rodney Harrison with NE etc.. IMO JT has more value on our roster as a leader than a mid pick.

A player such as Joey Porter is more likely to be traded or released even if the cap hit is big. His big mouth and average production is not Parcells idea of a valued veteran. It is going to be interesting what happens with the roster from now on.
