Jake Long RT??

Post#1 » by GameTime_3 » Wed Sep 24, 2008 3:43 am

I thought it would be a good time to bring this up. For those who didnt notices, but most of the big runs on sunday, came from the right side, the same side that Jake was playing at the time. Jake was moving from side to side, depending on the play. After watching it again, i thnk he maybe better at the RT and Carey at LT. Jake even spoke about it after the game, saying that he felt good going back to the right side. So i ask, what position would you like to see him play? Would you be mad if they moved him to RT, after they used the 1st pick on him? I would be ok with it.

On the intricacies and benefits of moving Jake Long to the right side in some situations) - "It just depends on what they're going to do from an alignment. To be honest with you, a year ago Miami did some of that. They went unbalanced; they just didn't do what we did. You can look or you can find film, so we found film, made some adjustments and to see maybe what we thought that way. Sometimes you can get a team to, when you're unbalanced and the lineman moves over, that front can shift to the unbalanced side, which makes you a little shorter one way or the other. If you don't shift you're weak to the strength and if you do shift, you're weak to the weakness of the defense, which is the backside. Obviously, you need answers for both and I think we've created some of those answers. Who knows, the 'Wildcat' might be dead."

Damn, I didn't notice that on the Wildcat formation, Long was lining up on the right side at the tight end spot. I just re-watched the Ronnie Brown touchdown plays, and the o-line looked like this in the Wildcat formation:

Fasano-Smiley-Satele-Ndukwe-Carey-Long.

No wonder they had so much power on those runs, especially with Smiley pulling.

But I wouldn't be talking about swapping our tackles, because Carey was also on the right side.
For a long time it gave me nightmares, witnessing an injustice like that. It’s a constant reminder of just how unfair this world can be.I can still hear them taunting him, Silly Rabbit tricks are for kids.I mean why couldn’t they just give him some cereal?

I liked being on the right side because it was probably some linebacker he was blocking not a DE...

It is part of the "WildCat" package formation. I wouldn't put too much to it. Besides, Jake Long is the highest paid lineman in whole NFL. You DO NOT pay a RT that kind of money. His destiny= LT

OT: Not that most of us care but how about Matt Millen finally getting fired after 7 years as the worst GM in the NFL? It was one of the most perplexing things ever when he would survive as the GM of the Lions every season. I feel for Detroit fans, what a moron Millen was with every decision he made!! Joey Harrington? Mike Williams? Charlie Rogers? Millen and Spielman should be banned from Football!!
