Re: Official FA/Draft thread
I wouldn't be surprised to see the phins draft a guy like Herman Johnson out of LSU if hes their when they pick in the 2nd round. Big parcells type lineman. We where inconsistent running the ball at times this year, and never really forced our will upon people consistently like championship caliber teams do. Donald thomas is unproven, Justin Smiley broke his leg. there are alot of question marks about our guard position. Him and Jake would be a huge left side of the offensive line to run behind.
I have a man crush on Jermaine Gresham, he can do alot of things at the TE position. He runs routes like a WR too.
IMO we need to upgrade:
Starting Corner
OLB
G
WR

Re: Official FA/Draft thread
IMO, these are our needs in order of importance and going by this regime's system and how is should be addressed:
1- Pass Rusher (OLB to compliment Porter) - Draft
2- Center (Satele is not strong enough, I see a permanent move to G, giving us depth there as well) - Draft
3- Playmaking WR (Ginn is a #2 WR at best and not a Parccells-type. I could see him being traded as well. Let get the best WR available in the market that can come up with the big play when it counts. - Via Trade or Free Agency
4- OL (Carey might be gone so depth at Tackle and a couple of guards would help) - Free Agency and Draft
5- Nose Tackle (Solai showed up the last couple of weeks so it moves this need a it further down but still need someone to develop there IMO) - Draft
6- Safety (Hill is a good communicator but not the playmaking starter we need. Bell needs to be resigned) - Free Agency and Draft
7- CB (We need quality depth behind the Allens and Goodman) - Draft and Free Agency
8- ILB (We could use a better playmaker but Crowder might be the best available) - Free Agency

Resign V.Carey and Y.Bell first! Go after the best WR( FA or Draft). Draft Cody from Alabama, the kids huge and could do wonders for us up front. I know we did good this year, but next year good be the year we take a step back.

Re: Official FA/Draft thread
The only way i think we should draft a WR in the first 2 rounds if its a wide receiver we think is capable of drawing double teams, which i dont think we can find one.
If we signed T.J, or traded for Plax or Ocho Cinco. it would change this offense completely. When we get that kind of WR, it will open up all the underneath stuff for Ginn, Bess, Fasano, and Camarillo.
Right now we need desperately OLB help, ILB if we don't resign crowder, and Interior offensive line, RT, and Corner(Even though in this day and age its proven that as long as you have a passrush, your corners dont have to be elite)
With the 25th pick we could target guys like:
Max Unger, C, Oregen (Satele is done at C for this team)
Clint Sintim, OLB, Virginia
Alphonso Smith, CB, Wake Forest (I think hes a good player, just overshadowed by Vontae Davis and Malcom Jenkins this year)
Brian Cushing, OLB, USC (Might be a reach to fall to us)
Duke Robinson, G, OU (Played mediocre in the title game, still a good player)
With our 1st pick in the second round we could target guys like:
Herman Johnson, G, LSU
Macho Harris, C, VT
Mike Mickens, CB, Cincy
Sean Smith, DB, Utah
Marcus Freeman, OLB, OSU
And with our second pick we could target guys like:
Larry English, DE/OLB Northern Illinois
Andy Levitre, OG Oregon State
Darry Beckwith, ILB, LSU
Point being, we have all the tools, and im praying to god we come out of the draft with contributors at Corner, Linebacker, and interior offensive line.

Re: Official FA/Draft thread
I don't see us making a move for an expensive older WR like Ocho, TJ, or especially radioactive Plax
I do agree that we will upgrade at C - Parcells likes mammoth strong centers not Satele who is suited to play in space, pulling and stuff. We couldn't run between the tackles last year, and while losing our guards was part of that, Smiley DID play most of the season. Satele may be moved to G or traded.
I think they could dump Vernon if they don't like his asking price. He is solid, I'd keep him, but the draft is also supposed to be heavy on right tackles this year. Bell should be kept, but we need a ballhawking free safety to compliment him.
Crowder is gone I bet -- I could see them taking a run at Bart Scott from the Ravens, or drafting a Sintim if he is there (Al Groh his coach is from the Parcells tree)
Definitely need to beef up the pass rush in the first two rounds.

Large free agent pool available to Miami Dolphins
By BARRY JACKSON
An early look at potential unrestricted free agent options for the Dolphins, whose cap space should end up topping $25 million:
• Receiver: Though Miami wants to add another playmaker, the market drops off after Antonio Bryant (Tampa might use its franchise tag on him) and Cincinnati's T.J. Houshmandzadeh, 31. Others include New England's Jabar Gaffney, the Giants' Amani Toomer, Tampa's Michael Clayton, the Saints' Devery Henderson, Detroit's Shaun McDonald, Pittsburgh's Nate Washington and the 49ers' Bryant Johnson.
• Offensive line: There's speculation Miami might pursue well-regarded Baltimore center Jason Brown, 25, if he hits the market -- at 320, he's 20 to 25 pounds heavier than Samson Satele. Buffalo's Duke Preston (326 pounds) would be a lesser option. Minnesota's Matt Birk, 32, is likely too old for Miami's preference. . . .
Carolina's Jordan Gross, Cincinnati'sStacy Andrews, Miami's Vernon Carey, Pittsburgh's Max Starks and New Orleans' Jon Stinchcomb are the top tackles potentially available, and if the Dolphins cannot re-sign Carey, they could make a run at Starks (UF); sign a stopgap such as Green Bay starter Mark Tauscher (coming off a knee injury) and then draft a long-term answer; or sign an emerging backup ready to start full time (Seattle's Ray Willis fits that mold).
• Defensive line: Miami needs another pass rusher in its front seven, but Carolina's Julius Peppers (14.5 sacks) is the only free agent defensive end with more than five sacks this season. Baltimore linebacker Terrell Suggs (eight sacks) also can play defensive end but might get the franchise tag.
Other potential free agent starters include Dallas' Chris Canty (drafted by this Dolphins' regime but only 10 sacks in four years); San Diego's Igor Olshansky (two sacks) and Arizona's Antonio Smith (3.5 sacks). Options are limited at tackle beyond Tennessee's elite Albert Haynesworth, and the Dolphins are expected to go another year with Jason Ferguson.
• Linebacker: The Dolphins and Channing Crowder don't see eye to eye on money, and Miami is expected to consider Ravens inside linebacker Bart Scott, whom Baltimore might not be able to afford because Suggs and Ray Lewis are free agents. If Miami signs neither Scott nor Crowder, options fitting Miami's size preference include Cleveland's Andra Davis and the Jets' Eric Barton, with the NFL Draft offering a longer-term answer. . . .
Other than Suggs and Arizona's Karlos Dansby, the market has few pass-rushing outside linebackers who are below age 30 and fit Miami's size preference. With Joey Porter coming off a 17.5-sack season and Matt Roth (five sacks) strong against the run, the hope would be to find a better version of third-down pass-rusher Charlie Anderson, who's due $1.7 million in 2009 unless he's cut. 49ers backup Roderick Green, who showed pass-rush skills in a 3-4 defense, is one option.
• Cornerback: Oakland's Nnamdi Asomugha and Houston's Dunta Robinson are the top free agent cornerbacks. The Dolphins want to re-sign Andre' Goodman, but if they can't, other starting options include Buffalo's Jabari Greer, the Colts' Kelvin Hayden, Pittsburgh's BryantMcFadden, New England's Deltha O'Neal and St. Louis' Fakhir Brown and Ron Bartell.
• Safety: The Dolphins want to re-sign Yeremiah Bell and have shown some interest in re-signing Renaldo Hill. If Miami keeps only one (Bell is obviously the priority), intriguing free agent options include St. Louis' O.J. Atogwe, the Giants' James Butler or Baltimore's Jim Leonhard. Miami is expected to look for players younger than accomplished free agents Brian Dawkins and Darren Sharper.

Re: Official FA/Draft thread
^^ thoughts on that
Antonio Bryant is a really good wide reciever, didnt he have some problems where he was out of the league for a year or something? The only guy that i like after TJ on that list is Nate Washington
I can't see us spending top doller for a RT, considering the money we have invested on the left side
I think Scott and Suggs are really good players that sometimes get overshadowed by Ray Lewis, and they're both physical guys, and guys with alot of confidence/swagger
I wouldn't be surprised to see us bring another 3-4 DE for depth if we cut Holliday. A guy like Igor Olshansky to be in that rotation we have there.
I like the Colts' Kelvin Hayden, but i think we definitely need to resign Goodman.

Vernon Carey re-signed. This makes me feel more comfortable.
For a long time it gave me nightmares, witnessing an injustice like that. It’s a constant reminder of just how unfair this world can be.I can still hear them taunting him, Silly Rabbit tricks are for kids.I mean why couldn’t they just give him some cereal?

Yes, good news, even though he is now the highest paid RT in football (kind of shocking)
we're going defense early and often in the draft I think

Its tough, secondary/linebackers need alot of work, and defense wins championships.
or do you try and get some offensive line/ wide receiver help, especially considering youre grooming a young quarterback that will eventually be the franchise guy

Crowder signed for a multi year deal and maybe we could sign Laveranues Coles to bring him back with Chad and he be great if we can't get like TJ or if you perfer coles over him.

Miami Dolphins sign Raiders' free agent Gibril Wilson
By Harvey Fialkov
South Florida Sun-Sentinel
11:57 AM EST, February 26, 2009
The Miami Dolphins didn't have to wait for the official start of free agency as they've signed Raiders strong safety Gibril Wilson to a multi-year contract.
Wilson's agent, Alvin Keels, confirmed the five-year deal.
The Dolphins were able to sign Wilson prior to tonight's midnight start of free agency because Wilson had been cut loose by the Raiders last Friday, meaning he was free to sign with any team at any time.
Wilson (6-0, 210 pounds) was one of the big free-agent signings of 2008, when the Raiders signed him to a six-year, $39 million deal last March. He was owed a $4.9 million roster bonus in March, and by cutting him Oakland saves $1.4 million against the cap.
Wilson's arrival could signal the departure of free agent strong safety Yeremiah Bell, who led the Dolphins in tackles last year with 120. The Dolphins may also lose the services of two other starting free-agent defensive backs in free safety Renaldo Hill and veteran cornerback Andre' Goodman, who is coming off his best season with five interceptions and 19 pass breakups. In the past week the Dolphins have re-signed two of their own free agents in right tackle Vernon Carey and linebacker Channing Crowder.
The ball seems to find Wilson, who has 13 interceptions in five season, including four in 2008 when he started for the Super Bowl champion Giants. Last year for Oakland, Wilson had a career-high 129 tackles with 1.5 sacks and two interceptions.
He spent his first four seasons with the Giants, who made him a fifth-round draft choice out of Tennessee in 2004.
Wilson has 66 career starts, including 15 last season, when he played strong safety and made 129 tackles with two interceptions.

I'd love to let Goodman go and trade and get Lito Shepperd via trade somehow like 4th rd pick or something around that.

In a move that will excite Miami Dolphins fans, the club locked down their safety position by re-signing leading tackler Yeremiah Bell hours after bringing Gibril Wilson aboard.Bell signed a four-year, $20 million contract with $10 million in guarantees, a league source informs ESPN.com. He will remain Miami's strong safety.
Wilson was second for the Raiders with 129 tackles.
