:noway:

The drama never ends... I will be pissed if something does come of this and the Vikes end up getting penalized.

Or, Packers just say tampering to eff with team chemistry and Jackson's confidence. I doubt there's a penalty for false accusations, so they've got nothing to lose.

Here's what Tom Powers had to say on the tampering issue a few days ago. Made some sense of things..

One thing about tampering charges: They almost never become public unless someone wants them to become public. Green Bay general manager Ted Thompson, otherwise known as "that idiot" to many football fans in and around Wisconsin, pulled off a beauty the other day. In fact, it was the gridiron equivalent of a triple play.

By filing tampering charges against the Vikings, he accomplished three strategic objectives: the accusation of high treason — conspiring with the enemy! — shifts public sympathy away from Favre; it assures he will not play for the Vikings, otherwise those tampering charges will appear all too true; and it guarantees that Favre will not play again in Green Bay.

That last one is the cherry on top the ice cream soda. The only thing Thompson and coach Mike McCarthy appear to want less than Favre playing for the Vikings is Favre playing for the Packers.

This thread from the Packers board puts a smile on my face.

 wow 20 million not to play

anway someone posted this
Send Favre to Minny for Pat Williams (assuming he's healthy) and two conditional draft picks. The Vikes 2009 first rounder if Favre starts at least 12 games. If not, we get their second rounder. Then if Favre starts those games and we get the first, we also get their second if they make the playoffs. Otherwise the second pick is a 4th rounder.

IF a trade to the vikings happens, what kind of value would we give up, the pack doesn't really have any leverage since minny is the only place brett wants to go

That trade proposal seems laughable to me. They'll get one pick for him, maybe it's a first but I'm not even sure about that.

Send 'em Darren Sharper, Brooks Bollinger, and a 5th rounder

No one should consider giving up a first or a player of value for Favre. A team desperate to win this year, with quarterback question marks - a team like Carolina, Tampa, and to a lesser extent Chicago (even with Favre I don't think the Bears are a playoff team) might consider giving up a 2nd. That should be the max GB gets.

While I believe that Brett will be a Viking before the end of today, I think that a 2nd rounder would send him any where, really.

Who ever gets Brett gets him for about 2 years. The average 2nd rounder could be a solid player for close to 10.

But you guys are a QB away from doing something special, so maybe it is worth it.

from the wiretap

An executive in personnel for the NFL with close ties to the NFC North division claims that the Packers have called the Vikings to inform them that Brett Favre is available, according to The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

"They’ve kind of said through one of their (front-office) guys that if Favre did report they would potentially trade him within the division," the executive said Sunday afternoon.

they must really not want him, if they are willing to trade him within the division now

ok with reports that farve to the bucs is a rumor out there, and if farve does go there, garcia won't want to stay

so he will be looking to get out, would you want jeff garcia to come here?
what kind of value would we have to give up to get him

I heard unconfirmed reports than Garcia suffered a serious injury in camp last week. Regardless, no, I don't want him here.
