Besides a probable meeting in the Big Game, Peyton Manning's other challenge to Favre maybe regarding attitude and game decisions-->most recently highlighted by his statements in defense of his coach's decision to rest starters.
"Until any player in here is the head coach, you follow orders and you follow them with all of your heart," Manning said. "That's what we've done as players. We follow orders. Our orders were not to give up a turnover, not to give up a kick return for a touchdown. There's not many games, under any circumstances, that you win when you have turnovers and give up a kick return for a touchdown." Said Peyton Manning in defense of his coach's decision to rest starters early in the 3rd quarter of the Colts vs Jets game.
Manning goes about his business quietly and consistently producing great numbers while playing within the system that made him the most successful QB this decade. He was taken out of a game he could have easily won and during what looked to be a flawless season that could have claimed him to be the best QB ever. He didn't contest the coaches decision but instead supported the rookie coach while highlighting the importance of TEAM and sacrifice.
In contrast Favre's message to the media seemed to have been one of dissent and at the very least self-serving. Don't get me wrong I am a Favre admirer but I do realize even football gods have flaws--AND his statements was a major error in judgement at this stage of the season. At minimum it was a distraction from team. At most it could develop into something divisive. Statements like that uttered by Favre to the media AND coming from such a heralded player has the potential to create a schizm in the locker room and among coaches. Despite his many years in the league it would seem Brett still could learn some things from Manning when it comes to team leadership and media. Hope it dies down with improved QB play going into the playoffs.

Re: Manning vs Favre
It's not really the same thing. The Colts game didn't mean anything. The idea of pulling Favre was ridiculous and I can understand why he was upset.

Re: Manning vs Favre
It's not the same exact scenario but both teams have clinched a playoff berth AND both teams were in a scenario that would have pitted a HOF QB against questionable calls from their respective coach.
Brett decides to air his dirty laundry to the media stirring yet a 3rd HOF QB vs management controversy. Manning, as close as he will ever come to perfection allows his rookie coach to pull his ass early in the third to sabotage a likely win--AND he looked comfortable backing his coach's decision too. THAT THERE IS THE DIFFERENCE.
Sadly, we now find that Brett's unhappiness and dissention with the coaching has gone on for several games now. That includes a 1-2 record in the last 3 games. Brett has told the media that he lost his cool in the Arizona game after being hurled around like a doll. Sure there were holding/noncalls on the defense and a late hit but Brett should have been pulled if he was so affected mentally that he knowingly forced the pass for interceptions or checked out of run plays to try his luck. Same with the Carolina game when the Vikes had a lead in part due to the running game only to go away from it and lose in the second half-->Vikes ran less than 5 plays in the second half of the Carolina game i believe. That was absurd.
As much as Minnesota declare themselves to be a good running team they've shown this year they have NO confidence in the run. In fact the Colts are one of the most pass happy teams out there and Manning calls his own plays regularly. And yet Manning would agree that to win a game you have to have more than a handful of run plays in the second half of any game.
So the Favre saga continues: HOF QB vs coach/management part 3. (3rd franchise). In GB it was TT and MM that supposedly forced him into early retirement. In NY it was Mangini supposedly making him play despite injuries--now we're not sure if he would have even come out of the game had he been told. I just hope Brett starts acting like Peyton Manning and trust your entire team. Coach included.
