Sidney Rice to Seahawks

Post#1 » by The J Rocka » Thu Jul 28, 2011 1:18 am

The Seattle Seahawks have agreed to a five-year, $41 million contract with wide receiver Sidney Rice, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

After a breakout 2009 season where he racked up 1,312 yards receiving with eight touchdown catches, the 24-year-old Rice had hip surgery last August and missed the Minnesota Vikings' first nine games in 2010.

The 6-foot-4, 202-pound wideout finished the year with 17 receptions for 280 yards and two touchdowns.

He was selected to his first Pro Bowl in 2009 but missed the game when he was injured in the NFC championship game against New Orleans.

He signed a four-year contract after being drafted in the second round by the Vikings in 2007.

Who will be throwing to Rice remains uncertain.

Longtime Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck agreed to a deal with the Tennessee Titans on Wednesday, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

In his place, the Seahawks agreed to a deal Tuesday with Rice's former teammate in Minnesota, Tarvaris Jackson. Jackson will compete with Charlie Whitehurst for the starting job.

Seattle also agreed to a deal with right guard Robert Gallery on Wednesday, helping to shore up its offensive line.

Sure does. It is a bit of a gamble for the 'hawks. A lot of money committed to a player that could easily get hurt, but you can't possibly pass up on his set of skills especially at his age. If healthy, he's a top WR. Vikings must not have thought he was worth the money or maybe he wanted out. The thought of T-Jack being the QB would give me the chills as a WR.

Looks like the Vikings will have to look at Steve Smith, Mike Sims-Walker, Malcolm Floyd, Plaxico (doubt it), or James Jones.

Yeah, definitely a gamble on Seattle's part. He's only had one good year his entire career and that was with a Hall of Fame QB (who had career high numbers) throwing to him. Other then that he's been injured or nonexistent. I don't see his career getting any better with a jump throwing T-Jack at the helm. I think Rice's relationship went sour with the Viking when they didn't offer him a contract extension last year.

jasonjwilde Jason Wilde
Just talked to an @NFL source who said James Jones is "close" to signing with the VIkings, as @JuddZulgad already reported.

We are also looking at Braylon Edwards. I want the Vikings to go for a deep threat, someone who can stretch the field, someone like Malcolm Floyd. He's 6'5 and has great leaping ability & hands. Deep balls from McNabb to Floyd all day.
