Cuts | Roster Additions/Subtractions

Post#1 » by Tha Juice » Mon Aug 29, 2011 6:51 pm

NFL teams were allowed to have 90 players on their training camp rosters, but must trim that number to 85 early this week.

In an effort to comply with the NFL’s roster requirements, the Vikings have waived the following players: DB Chris Adingupu, OL Conan Amituanai, TE Ed Barham, QB Rhett Bomar, DB Simeon Castille, LB Jonathan Gilmore, WR Andre Holmes, LB Kyle O’Donnell, K Nate Whitaker and DT Colby Whitlock.

The Vikings now have 80 players on the roster and the NFL requires teams to be at 53 players by September 4.

I hope Ponder can firmly beat out Webb at number 2 in tonights game.
Thats the only way I think the FO can persue transitioning Webb to more packages to get him somehow on the feild.

Yeah, he was making 1.75 million. Plus, according to Judd Zuglad the new coaching staff wasn't enamored with his skills. Age and injuries were also factored in.

The Minnesota Vikings have addressed their need for depth at linebacker, claiming fourth-year pro Xavier Adibi off waivers from the Houston Texans, according to his agent.

Adibi, 26, played in 34 games (eight starts) over three seasons with the Texans, who drafted him in the fourth round (118th overall) of the 2008 NFL Draft. He started against the Vikings in Thursday's exhibition finale and finished the preseason with 14 tackles, two sacks and three quarterback hits.

At 6-foot-2, 242 pounds, Adibi was a backup inside linebacker in Houston's 3-4 scheme. He also played inside in a 3-4 defense at Virginia Tech, so he'll have a transition to the Vikings' 4-3.

Adibi's agent, Andy Ross, confirmed his client was expected to be on the field when the Vikings resume practice on Monday morning.

It wasn't immediately clear who the Vikings cut to make room for Adibi, but odds seemed good it wasn't a linebacker. They kept only five on the initial 53-man roster on Saturday.
