I wonder what that would mean for Everson Griffin. I don't know anything about Michael Johnson, I'll have to Google him.

Signing Griffen should probably be the biggest priority, he's not going to command huge money and if he plays more downs I think he will offer as much as some of the top DE's. To name some bigger named players, I hope the Vikes take a look at Linval Joseph, Michael Johnson, Sam Shields, Alterraun Verner, and possibly TJ Ward. Hopefully they dont spend much on the offensive line, you can get quality starting linemen with mid round picks.

looks like they are releasing john carlson
http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/10552 ... hn-carlson

makes sense, saving some money - rudolph coming back healthy and chase ford looking good

also the vikes didn't use the franchise tag this year

vikes signed cassel for 2 years, $10 million

so we've stepped back from qb no man's land, good deal for everyone too i think

also signed marcus sherels, don't see anything on the numbers

They needed to retain Cassell, even if it meant slightly overpaying for him, so I think it was good move. Sherels also played decent last year in a bigger role than he should have had.

Still waiting for them to resign Griffen, I wonder what's taking so long?

I don't know that we needed to retain Cassel, I'm not sure there's a lot at stake, but he was my preference for a stop gap QB. We'll still have to draft one. My first instinct would be that we would release Ponder, but I think Spielman already said he'd be on the team next season.

Well we needed to have more than just Ponder and whoever they draft this year. We didnt have to have Cassell but he's probably the best option.

I wanted Cassel for insurance. I don't want him as our franchise QB obviously but he's a pro's pro. If our starter were to ever miss a small amount of time, Cassel is a solid glue guy that can takeover if necessary.

Sounds like we're heavily interested in Alterraun Verner and Michael Johnson (still). I read that Verner turned down $8M/yr from the Titans and is looking for $10M/yr minimum. Only 25 years old and if he continues to play like he did last season, $10M would be a bargain assuming he would be secured through his prime.

Verner and Johnson would be great additions. Even with Verner, they could still probably still use another CB in the draft or FA, depending on what they think of Robinson.

They got Cassel, which is fine, but I still want one of the top 3-4 QBs in the draft.

OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.

seems like both johnson and verner would take up a lot of our available money, do you think we should get both if we have the chance? with the amount of holes we need to fill i'm hesitant to throw a ton of money at just one or two guys

With the recent cap bump, the Vikings apparently have 41 million dollars in cap room. That's enough to go after 2-3 major players (or more) and then fill in some gaps.

That was before the Casell resigning though. I'd say yes, go ahead and grab Verner and Johnson, they'd still have room to sign some quality players.

Apparently, the Vikings have resigned Griffen to a 5 year 42.5 million 20 million guaranteed contract. It may seem like a lot for him, but this deal is all about the potential of Griffen.

That kind of ends the Johnson talks I guess.

Vikings will also sign Jasper Brinkley to a one year deal.

Not sure what they see in Brinkley. Griffen has a ton of potential and it will be interesting to see how Zimmer molds him. He will probably be less of a pass rusher and more of a run stopper now as that is how Zimmers D worked in Cincy. Hope we can get Verner, and a nose tackle (they were looking at some veteran but don't remember who).
