Re: 2019 Regular Season
That was almost impressive. We blew that in all three facets.

Re: 2019 Regular Season
27 rushes
13 passing targets to runningbacks
5.8 averge yards per pass (in the big offense wins, yards per pass for Cousins was 9 to 9.5 leading the league)
Your coach has done less for the Minnesota Vikings than a Lizzo song has. Matt Moore just beat your team.

Been lots of crying about Cousins and some well-deserved, however, the Viking defense is the core of this franchise under Zimmer and it still can't stop a backup QB leaving them 0-2 (Bears, KC). Out-coached.

The Bears only scored 16 points, and their backup is arguably better than their starter.

Re: 2019 Regular Season
Cousins is here for another 1.5 seasons at his guaranteed rate. Are they seriously going to have him throwing at 5 yards or less averages for that period of remaining time? This team needs a new coach so badly. An offensive head coach that knows his head from his tail.

Vikes Dallas
1st Quarter
Balanced 8 passes 8 runs. 8 yards per pass
14-0 winning
That's more like it. Let's see if they get conservative and lopsided or keep on it the right way or not.

This is what it must have felt like to get diced up by Cris Carter all those years.

Re: 2019 Regular Season
32 pass attempts
36 runs
Fairly balanced game overpowers for win. A bit Cook overload, especially with more passing targets to Cook than any receiver. Still trying to prove something there for some reason. 33 touches for Cook. Mattison could have ran the clock out at the end just fine. Both looked more capable than Elliot.
Most important, over 9.5 yards per pass. That's a good way to win Zimmer. Keep that up.
The shaky decision to call a pitch when running out the clock within your own 10 yardline was a sign this is still the team that can throw games away on questionable decisions.

Re: 2019 Regular Season
We’re going to need figure out our secondary. I can’t believe we won when we couldn’t seem to stop them at all. Still it’s a road win against a quality team, I shouldn’t complain.

Re: 2019 Regular Season
Nah, I feel the same way. Very good win overall with some pretty big warts. I'd lump our pass rush in there as well. Obviously you can't play the run much better than that, especially against a quality back and line. But we really got chewed up in the passing game, coming off a loss in which we couldn't get key stops against a backup QB. Feels like a miracle we only gave up 24 points.

Re: 2019 Regular Season
i was impressed as how well we stopped the run, they did a really good job of that. normally i'd think that was part of the reason for the swiss cheese secondary, but that has become a bit of a trend the last few weeks. i don't think it was just waynes being out either
the back seven is having trouble covering people anymore and i hope they can get it fixed

Re: 2019 Regular Season
but man, a win against a good team, on the road, in primetime - feels like we should be partying in the streets considering how often that has happened recently
hopefully this was a huge confidence boost for the team because they will need to do it again in a few weeks at seattle

More on our secondary, specifically our corners, from Bill Barnwell. I knew Rhodes wasn't playing all that great, but I didn't grasp the full extent to which he's fallen off. Borderline shocking.
Cornerback has typically been a source of strength for the Vikings, but it has been a major weakness this season. Rhodes has been a shell of his former self. He has allowed opposing quarterbacks to complete 84.3% of their passes when he has been the closest defender in coverage, per NFL Next Gen Stats. That's nearly 17 percentage points ahead of what NGS estimates as the expected completion percentage (67.4%) on those passes. Among players who have been targeted 50 times or more, Rhodes ranks last in both completion percentage and completion percentage above expectation.
Waynes hasn't been much better; he ranks third in completion percentage above expectation and has the sixth-worst passer rating as the nearest defender in coverage this season. He missed the win over the Cowboys on Sunday with an ankle injury, which turned a starting job over to Hughes, who looked impressive as a rookie last season before tearing his ACL. The Cowboys ruthlessly targeted Hughes throughout the night, including repeated attempts on what was to be the ill-fated failed drive in the fourth quarter. Nobody in the stadium was more relieved that the Cowboys ran the ball twice in a row on the final series of that drive than Hughes, who was targeted on five straight attempts for four completions and 39 yards.
A limited Amari Cooper finished with 11 catches on 14 targets for 147 yards and a touchdown, and it wasn't the first time the Vikings have struggled against the opposing team's top wideout. There just isn't anybody on this roster who can cover top-tier wideouts at this point. Last week, even with Matt Moore at quarterback for the Chiefs, Tyreek Hill had six catches for 140 yards and a touchdown. Minnesota quieted Lions wideout Kenny Golladay, but Marvin Jones had 10 catches for 93 yards and four touchdowns. Alshon Jeffery had 10 catches on 12 targets for 76 yards and a score for the Eagles. Davante Adams had seven catches for 106 yards for the Packers.
