Looks like Bridgewater, Carr, Manziel, and Brotles could all be gone before we pick... Yikes!

yeah that seems to be the top tier, and i am fine with not reaching for someone - don't need to be giving up a lot of picks at this stage

what is the next tier of guys and when are they expected to go?

i would be fine with waiting a round or two on the qb and letting him sit behind cassel and develop for a little while

I think we have to find a way to get one of these guys, I'd rather not see us take a chance on someone in the third or fourth round, we need to get "that guy" that can be our franchise quarterback.

If we draft a guy in the 2nd or 3rd round, I view us as possibly still being in the QB market during the next draft.
Hundley, Mariota and Winston are all guys who could be at the top of next years draft, so if we can't find a QB who we want to draft in the first round this season there are at least some options next season too.

I think if you have such an awful quarterback situation like we do, and you have a chance to get someone in the draft you go for it.

even though there are a lot of qbs in this draft everyone seems to think there isn't a "that guy (andrew luck)" type sure thing

considering we have a ton of holes else where i just don't know whether it would be worth sacrificing some picks to maybe get a franchise guy

I guess I dont think we should trade picks either to move up, but I think it would be a blow if we didnt land one of the top quarterbacks.

It's worth it to trade up to get an elite guy but I'm scared of pulling the trigger on a major trade. I'd be too worried that we're trading up for the next Christian Ponder.

I think at least one of those quarterbacks will fall but if not, there are some great prospects. For example: C.j Mosley, linebacker from Alabama, Barr from Ucla, Gilbert, cornerback from Oregon state, and Dennard, cornerback from Michigan state.
I am really pulling for Manziel but I can't picture him in a Vikings uniform. Some team will grab him, he is just to intriguing.

I would bet that all four are gone by the 9th pick. Buffalo and Detroit are 9 and 10 and they're not taking QBs.

Really the next team that might even consider a 1st round QB is Tennessee at 11, then ARI at 20. I don't see the Titans doing that though, not sure ARI will either.

Next tier of guys is Brett Smith, A.J. McCarron, David Fales, Zach Mettenberger, Aaron Murray, Jimmy Garoppolo in some order. I like McCarron the best out of that group but that days more about the others than it does me "liking" McCarron. I strongly suspect he'll be the 5th QB taken even though he chickened out of Senior Bowl week.

Oh, I forgot Logan Thomas. If he wows in Mobile in a couple of weeks, and he's going to, he's no worse than a top-of-3rd round pick. That's probably before any of the guys I listed other than McCarron and Smith.

looks like we're the end of the line for the top 4 guys, if one starts a free fall i think we probably take whoever it is unless they've fallen out of favor with everyone (brady quinn scenario)

2. Biggest 1st round variable is the 4th QB, which is Derek Carr. Bridgewater, Manziel and Bortles will be gone in the top 8. Carr could go as high as 8 or as low as 26 if draft were today.

rams might be shopping #2, not that i think we should move up

looks a little more hopeful for us getting one of the top 4, although carr is the one i want the least out of those 4 - could be because i don't know anything about him but i might prefer getting one of the guys in the 2nd/3rd round

I actually want Carr over Maniel and Bortles, I think he could be a very capable quarterback that will be able to find his target.

Did Ponder throw for 5000 yards and 50 touchdowns though? No, not even close.

He might have if he went to Fresno State. Not to mention Ponders cons are very similar if not the same as Carrs.

I thought Carr has a rocket for an arm? But not nearly as mobile.

Look at Ponder's senior year, look who he did good and bad against.

Statistics can be misleading on the college level. There have been plenty of guys who have put up monster stats without amounting to much in the NFL. That being said, the scouting reports I've read on Carr don't sound much like Ponder so I'm curious to hear an explanation on that.

I did, but the difference is that Carr still had major success in college while Ponder didnt.
