week 16: vikings @ texans

Post#1 » by hermes » Wed Dec 19, 2012 4:16 pm

vikings (8-6) @ texans (12-2)

fighting for the playoffs takes us to the team trying to wrap up the #1 seed in the afc, so this should be tough

best case scenario is to jump out to an early lead and ride ap and the defense into the ground, otherwise we have to keep it close and hope adrian breaks one. if we fall behind we're in trouble

if there is ever a time where a few play action passes would be good it would be now, because i really don't think houston cares about ponder doing anything at all

priorities: get ponder comfortable (early throws to rudolph), get ap going early and often, then a deep shot or two to wright or burton or whoever is still on this team as a wr

I think we're going to need some turnovers like we've had the past couple games. We obviously need a big game from AP since he's our only offense. Chris Cook is reportedly eligible to come off IR, that would be big since we're gonna need all the help we can get covering Andre Johnson.
Anyway, this is a huge challenge but we need to win to keep our playoff hopes alive.

Lets go boys.

Ponder can't crumble with Watt looking to murder him. Like Worm said, we'll need to force some TOs to help secure this W. Lets hope AP has a great game as well.

Ponder looking great. Texans making it too easy for us to pass.

they seem solely focused on ap, and figure watt getting to ponder if enough to frazzle him

nice to see he holding up so far, some nice plays- simpson had a great catch

The defense was great. When they play like this we win. Ponder was Ok but he got away with at least one ridiculous throw.
We now control our own destiny. We win and we're in.

Green Bay needs to win to clinch a bye, otherwise I think they'd need both Seattle and San Franto lose, so don't expect them to sit anybody. The Vikings can lose and make it but they'd need Dallas, NYG, and Chicago to also lose.

ok, that's what i thought

and ap will need to duplicate his game against the packers a few weeks ago to hit the record (he had 210 yards against them earlier)

wonder if the pack will have the same focus on stopping ap as the texans did, or will they at least acknowledge that ponder is back there after his last game

part of me is sad that this one game of passive competence combined with an A+ defensive effort will probably buy Ponder security through at least the 1st half of next season. No matter how they finish, I hope they make a move for Alex Smith, Matt Flynn, or my personal fav, Brock Osweiler. They need to at least have an open competition next camp with a legit competitor for the starting spot.

I think I'd rather see Webb get a shot than to spend money on another backup caliber QB, but I think Webb is getting Tebowed. If somehow Philip Rivers or Tony Romo became available then I'd be interested.
