Take Green-Beckham. The risk of not being the beneficiary of what he could bring with that kind of size and speed is greater than the risk of him possibly refusing to stop smoking pot.

It's more than just pot, but I do trust Zimmer's ability to whip people in shape.

Green-Beckham would be the ultimate risk reward pick. Definite Megatron type tools.

Sounds like we lost on the Duron Carter sweepstakes. That's a bummer.

I may be in the minority, but I'm not very big on the Vikings selecting Parker at 11. I would much rather it be Kevin White, or trade down and get a receiver later. If the BPA is there I'm all for it. I just have my doubts about Parker.

I kind of agree- for some reason, that makes absolutely no sense, I have this odd feeling Parker won't be very good. Nothing to back it up. I'd be fine if we picked him at 11, I have no reason to believe he will be bad, but my gut is telling me no no no. White has moved to the number one wide receiver (in mock drafts) and it would be fantastic if Cooper fell to us.

I've changed my stance to picking a wide receiver in the 1st and a guard in the second or third.

I wouldn't hold out too much hope for that guard pick. As far as I can tell, in 8 drafts, Spielman has yet to take an interior lineman earlier than the 5th round. Probably helped form his philosophy watching his predecessor draft Ryan Cook in the 2nd.
They were able to get Sullivan in the 5th and though his worth hasn't been proven yet, last year Yankey was highly regarded and fell to them too. Just doesn't seem like Spielman values that position in the early and mid rounds. This year at the East-West game & the Sr Bowl, they've talked with 3 future interior linemen - all slated to go in that 5-7 round range.
Also remember the Vikings locked up Fusco to that (questionable?) extension before the season, so he should be healthy and presumably will lock down one guard spot. For the other spot, you throw a couple intriguing prospects - Yankey and Richardson (assuming he's healthy), maybe a veteran free agent and a late draftee to that mix and let the best man win.

He'd be an interesting addition, but do we need him though? Still got Charles Johnson the beast, Patterson, Wright, Thielen, and whoever we draft in the 1st to replace Jennings after he's cut.

Re: 2015 draft discussion
I was definitely intrigued to see what Duron could do the second time around, especially with a better coaching staff to mentor him. However, I can't be too mad at him for wanting to play with the next best QB, Andrew Luck.
The good thing about the current Vikings receivers is they are not as weak as previous corps (like mentioned above) so Carter would have been nice to have, but not sure he would be much better than Jarius, Charles Johnson, or even Cordarrle Patterson.
I'd like to see the Vikings continue to add depth though via FA or the draft. Just not spending a 1st round pick on a WR, unless it's Amari Cooper or Kevin White.

Re: 2015 draft discussion
Unless they plan on signing Demaryius Thomas, I'd be disappointed if they didnt take a WR in the 1st. It's a bumper crop of big, talented WRs and the Vikings are in prime position for drafting one. Only other thing that would make sense would be if they get rid of Kalil and draft Flowers, but I think they'll suffer through another season of Kalil instead.

Re: 2015 draft discussion
if there is so many good wrs we can wait on them, there are other spots that can be fixed. don't necessarily need a big flight wr to be successful
plus i still am weary about a 1st round wr, i hope they don't get one - go boring with defense or oline!

Flowers seems like a beast. Give Kalil the heave-ho.

11. Minnesota Vikings: Amari Cooper, WR, Alabama. There will be debate until the names are called about the ordination of the wideouts. The fact there is such debate could create an interesting market where teams wait longer, as happens here. He becomes the much-needed #1 target for Teddy Bridgewater.
45. Minnesota: Eric Kendricks, LB, UCLA
76. Minnesota: Josh Shaw, CB, USC

Re: 2015 draft discussion
I don't think Amari Cooper slides to the Vikings. He's too good of a football player. I'm sure Oakland realizes that. They also realize they need a number one receiving threat for Carr. If for some reason the Raiders mess up and draft someone with a faster .40, Cooper, Teddy and the Vikings could be the perfect match.
I also think DGB goes to the Rams, or they could consider Cooper as well.
The Vikings have tons of options (I'm hoping for defense unless Amari Cooper is there). I'm anxious to see what direction they go. The speculation is what makes draft talk enjoyable. Skol.

Re: 2015 draft discussion
I think if Oakland drafts a receiver it'll be White, I think he's the no.1 receiver right now.
I still don't like any of the defensive players at our pick. We could really use an ILB, LE, and a CB, but none are worthy, maybe they trade down if they decide to go defense?

seems like we're at a spot that is prime for rick to trade back, grab a pick or two and get someone they like later in the first

This is true, but there is bound to be someone that can fill one of our needs with the pick we have now. I like Collins, Scherrf, Cooper, White, Parker, and Thompson. At least one of those players will be there when we pick.

I wonder how high a pick we can get for Patterson? I'd like to switch him with Duke Johnson or Green-Beckham since the current regime doesn't know how to get him involved.

i wouldn't think very high unless there is a team that thinks they have a wr whisperer or something
