Bothers me cause I wanted Jarrett. Jarrett has better hands, way better hands, he also has 15lbs at least more than Rice. He also has the big light clutch career and great stats. Rice is raw. He has great height and arms, he is smooth. Has good body control. Good jump balls, good red zone. Some scouts say great hands,
Needs strength, gets pushed alot. durability issues. Sluggish initial burst. Unpolished.
ooooo, he runs a 4.5 and jarrett runs a 4.6. Scouts are worried this kid cant take abuse. Im just not sure about this
Figures pick after us gets D. Jarrett..this sucks, I wanted him so bad.

Jarrett's floor is higher, but Rice's ceiling is higher. Cant go wrong with a WR named Rice

2 good picks so far... whats next? Probably depth at either line, or depth at CB?

Rice is a great pick, he's not super fast but he's a fluid athlete ala Nate Burleson.
I'm just glad we didn't blow our 2nd rounder on any small school 6'8" centers this year.

Sidney "Wild" Rice is a good pick...It will be interesting to know who turns out better Jarrett or Rice...Good trade we picked up a valuable 4th rounder and only moved down 3 spots...Puts the SC kids together and maybe they will motivate eachother...If we didn't have Troy Will I'd have prefered Jarrett, but maybe the SC kids r buddies...

I'm not sure about the way better hands bit, both seem to have good hands. The two seasons Rice played, he put up similar numbers to Jarrett, and their numbers this season were nearly identical. He hasn't had any major injury issues, the only things that have come up in the last two years have been a couple broken fingers. It isn't like he's tearing ligaments and not withstanding hits. The guy's missed one game and a little practice time the last two years. Jarrett missed most of 3 games last year.
The only thing that really jumps out at me for Jarrett is that he runs better routes than Rice.
Is wanting someone in part because they're 15 lbs heavier than the other guy any less stupid than preferring the other guy because he runs slightly faster and has a better vertical (especially at WR)?

good point..I just think Jarretts hands are special (that will be a sig im sure) and he is more proven in the big games. Rice reminds many of Chad johnson. I like him, just liked Jarrett more.
he wears purple. thats what matters

I'd be happy with a Chad Johnson.

To me, it seemed like Jarrett tended to catch the ball with his body a lot for a guy who was hyped for his hands. From what I've seen of Rice, he does a good job of extending his arms for the ball, and then quickly securing it and bringing it into his body. He's also got enough speed (he was timed in the 4.4's by some people) and size to be a vertical threat for us, which is something we need desperately that Jarrett likely couldn't have provided. Early in the year we actually threw deep a fair amount, but then once it was established that our guys couldn't catch the ball, we didn't. Even the offense Childress comes from (Eagles) likes to throw the deep ball moreso than most teams that run the WCO.
The most interesting bit to me was when Keyshawn said he was a bit down on Rice because he could be a "Spurrier system" player. This struck me as interesting because I think that's the knock on USC WR's for now, especially since Mike Williams and Keary Colbert (near doppelgangers from size/speed standpoints to Jarrett and Smith) have disappointed at the NFL level, and why Jarrett and Smith dropped a bit.
The more I see of Rice, the more I like the pick, and we could help fill both of our remaining needs in the 4th round since we traded down a bit. That was an excellent trade, by the way. We picked up an extra 4th, and still had the 3 WR's we should have been considering available when we picked.
You're right, though. He wears purple now, and that's what matters. I'm just happy to have someone who looks like they can catch a deep ball, and it doesn't hurt that he's nearly 6'4".
