FA's and trade

Post#1 » by JBoog35 » Mon Jan 7, 2008 4:55 am

There was a small article from twincities.com that was somewhat informative.

http://www.twincities.com/vikings/ci_7891888

I think if the Vikes wanted to overpay for Ken Hamlin, they could. I have always been a fan of the guy. Big time hitter, good run stuffer, but I think if we were going to go that route, it'd be impoving an already #1 rush D, and doing nothing for the pass D. I'd rather go with signing Sensabaugh and Resigning Doss. Let those two duke it out for the starting spot. I want to see Smith gone.

As far as receivers go. I don't think I would mind Berrian, I just think we can get the same kind of production for less money out of a D.J. Hackett, Bryant Johnson, or a Nate Washington.

The last thing to mention is, I wouldn't mind trading for a DE over a QB. Justin Smith, Odom, etc. are decent players, but trading for a Jason Taylor would be ideal. They are rebuilding could use the picks. I think a pro bowl caliber DE would help that D back to at least the middle of the pack.

Those are my thoughts. What are yours? Draft only? Spend big again?
"Dude, all I am saying is we already have a starting RB, his name is Chester Taylor. Besides AP isn't that good anyways. I hope we draft McFadden." --Me after he broke the record.

I still want to get an established receiver as our #1. I don't want to settle for a Berrian or Crayton or whoever else. If the Cardinals board wasn't so dead, I'd ask them if there was any chance they would give up Fitz for a 1st. Or maybe we can see exactly how disgruntled Chad Johnson really is and make an offer to the Bengals. I just want us to have a legitimate threat at the WR position.

Getting JT would be a dream come true. But considering his contract, $7.5 million, and the cap penalty the Dolphns would be hit with, I don't expect it to happen. Our DE's are really young, and giving them one vet to lead and teach would be the perfect situation. Last thing we need is another DE in the draft. Maybe Jared Allen?

As for our secondary, I would love to wake up one morning and hear that the Vikes have snatched up Asomugha, Trufant, and to a lesser extent Samuels, but I don't see us spending big money on a DB. If we could get some veteran help at CB, and draft a young safety, I think we'll be alright going into next season.

BTW, if you want to look at the contracts and salaries of the Vikings or anyone else

http://asp.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/salaries/default.aspx

Just found it and it lists the total salary for each player. Guess who's the second highest payed player on the team this year? Visanthe Shiancoe! For all the good free agent pick-ups Childress has brought here, this has got to be the worst.

haha, maybe we should look for a REAL TE.

I hear ya on Taylor. I agree. I think the problem with Allen is going to be the Franchise Tag.

Also, I know McCauley and Griffin haven't been the best, but I don't think they would over spend on premier DB. Griffin and McCauley are outside corners, not nickle backs. Too big, not quick enough. I like Gordon as our nickle back, Toine as a starter, and I agree a "cover" corner would help this team a lot, but I don't see them doing it with Griffin and McCauley on the roster. I think it is more likely we sign a vet safety and go for a WR or a DE with the first pick.

I also agree, that the FA WR class is not going to turn around the passing game. A premier WR would.

Last thought, I forgot to mention...RT Ryan Cook is not a Tackle, he is a G/C, he cannot take on speedy players. He NEEEEEEEDS to be replaced.

are there any free agent TE's or tackles out there that we would have a shot at?

the wr draft class doesn't look so good this year, so i don't know what we're going to do there

and i doubt cardinals give up fitz
