Finish FA strong (PT 1 DE)

We lost out on Justin Smith. Even if we spend our 1st on a DE we still need a vet at the position to make up for the loss of Udeze.
Here are some unrestricted FA names I have
Antwan Odom, Titans
Mike Rucker, Panthers
Marques Douglas, 49ers
Bobby McCray, Jaguars
Travis Laboy, Jags
some restricted options
-Chris Canty, cowboys
-Antonio Smith, Cards
And of course the Jason Taylor option, but I doubt this happens. He seems to want media coverage
RIght now the guy I would be interested in is Canty, but his RFA status bothers me. Reports are the odom does not fit our system. Rucker is older, but could be a nice fit for a few years. Douglas is not the rusher we want. Laboy could be an interesting prospect.
Any other ideas?

Where have you heard Odom does not fit? All I've heard is that he fits better than Smith would and will cost less. He's a pure pass rusher.

Odom has the most talent of all the dudes.

McCray signed with the Saints.
Odom has to visit two teams before we get a crack at him. I think he signs with one of the two teams before he even talks to us. That is, unless he is demanding some outrageous money.
Calvin Pace had 6.5 sacks last year. It was a contract year for him. He's been a disappointment his entire career up until last year. If he's not looking for huge money I'd take a look at him.

Odom cancelled his Arizona visit and is visiting us instead. After Cinci.

He didn't cancel, he just altered his plans. LaBoy is in AZ right now so it doesn't make sense for them to host two DEs.

I heard he cancelled. Regardless he is coming here after Cinci

If he even leaves Cinci...

I heard that he hasn't cancelled with AZ, just pushed us ahead of them. I hope he gets out of Cincy, because he's the best fit of the FA DE's out there for us (including those who have already signed, outside of Allen).
Pace signed with the Jets for big money, but he wasn't a good fit for what we run. He did fairly well after he moved to OLB in the 3-4 last year, but he struggled when he played in a 4-3 scheme.
The only remaining defensive ends I'm intrigued by are Odom, Canty, LaBoy, and possibly kicking the tires on Kearse (last option).
I'd love it if they got Odom, though. That would really allow us to go after the BPA in the draft. Given what the DE's have signed for this offseason, we'll have to pony up some major dough for to get him.

I wouldn't mind him in a Lance Johnstone type role as a situational pass rusher. But I think he's done as an every down DE. Let him split time with Robison.

FA pool gets smaller, Odom's gone. About $30 million over 5 years, with over $11 million guaranteed.

I'm not against Kearse, but I think injuries have taken enough away and make him unreliable enough that I wouldn't consider him a solution. He's at least interesting, especially given how few options there are left in FA at the position. Good thing there are decent options available in the draft.

ya kearse isn't an everydown de anymore

And we need a LDE not a RDE, Kearse does not have the size to play LDE. Maybe if Robison can add 15 pounds without losing speed.

Kearse signed with TEN. 2 years for $6 million, $1.3 guaranteed. I wouldn't have minded him for that price.

yea, but we need a LDE not a RDE. Kearse is not big enough for that roll.
When do we go 3-4 put Kevin at the RDE and draft Erin Henderson to play next to his brother? Sign Spikes and roll with that.

Who plays the LDE then? Neither Robison nor Edwards can play the DE in the 3-4.
