Finish FA Strong 9pt 2--QB)

Post#1 » by revprodeji » Sun Mar 2, 2008 3:44 am

This is our second glaring need.

-The Sage deals apparently have ended for now.
-Anderson resigned, Collins resigned, Lemon is gone, heck even Bouman and Hill got love.
-The lack of available FA talent at the Qb, and the Sage saga makes me think a trade is likely. Regardless here are the available QB's I consider in FA.

-David Carr, big risk/reward factor. Hopefully the gloves do not come with
-Culpepper. Ok, I laughed also, but he is there
-Leftwich, I think the WCO is bad for him, but the talent is there.
-McCown, I have heard his name pop up.
-Quinn Gray, his name gets popped up, he had a nice run last year, but is still a developing QB. I think he could be a decent option.
-Volek, likely gone but a good vet option
-Brunell, Old as dirt
-Frerotte, ok, the thought of him in a WCo makes me laugh
-Trent Green, candle+old as dirt
-Jarod Lorenzen, heafty lefty!!!! NFC east connection Chilly loves
-Craig Nall, we talked about him a couple years ago.
-Dan Orlovsky, restricted but a decent prospect
-Tim Rattay, put up numbers in san fran
-Tuiasosopo, a good WCO type, but not the talent of a #2
-Weinke, nvm

That being said, who is a QB you would like to trade for?

Josh McCown gone to the fins,
Volek stays with the bolts

too bad the Rosenfels thing fell thru, the Vikes 3rd should have been enough. A second is too much.

The FA list is creepy at best, Maybe Gray? w/o a trade is the original Purple Jesus (Brooks) going to be our #2?

JP Losman?
Chad Pennington?
Tylr Thigpen?
Seneca Wallace?
Andrew Walter?

I don't see this is a glaring need, but a 3rd or 4th for Losman or Pennington wouldn't be the end of the world.

I'd rather us sign a QB. I know the pickings are slim but trading for guys like Rosenfels, Losman or Pennington is wasting a draft pick. Those mentioned names are only going to be around for 1-2 seasons. They all want to be starting and don't want to play behind Tavaris because all signs point to Tavaris being the long term QB. You can find some very good players in the third round. I'd rather keep it and develop the draft pick than waste it on a 1-2 year rental.

Kfan is reporting this morning that MN has talked to Cleveland about Derek Anderson.

I don't expect those talks to go very far. Chilly has all but named T-Jack his starter next year.

Losman is not FA, rev was talking about acquiring him through a trade.

Funny you mention Tyler Thigpen, the guy we let go last year.

If Andrew Walter can come cheap (no better than a 5th rounder), I'm all for acquiring him.

Then you are lucky, I spoke to Iceness this morning via pm and he said Losman is the guy we are targeting right now, He just does not know how serious we are going for him, or for what draft pick.

Mockingly he told me there is always David Carr.

I wouldn't mind giving up one of the 3rd rounders for Losman. Anything more and I'm iffy about it. He looked like he had a chance to break out after the 2006 season, but last year was disappointing.
"A while back,'' Cardinal said, "I took a picture of the standings and texted it to Love, just to bust his chops,'' Cardinal said. "He sent me a picture back of a snowdrift.''

Being that we could have got Sage if we gave up the 2 and we did not, then my logic would say we would not give up a 2nd for a player we have ranked less than Sage.

Flacco is overrated.

I would be cool with drafting Woodson in the 3rd if he lasts. That way if TJax bombs this year we would have already had a year or so working with Woodson. Woodson was considered a 1st rd prospect until Martz wrecked him during the senior bowl.
