Very interesting concept. GB would be pissed since they built in that poison pill to the Jets that is now moot.

Star Tribune - Jay Glazer of FOX Sports has reported that the Vikings are "split" on whether or not to bring Brett Favre out of retirement.

"Brad Childress and Brett Favre are scheduled to meet later this week. However, the Minnesota Vikings have not taken it that far as an organization. This is just Favre and Brad Childress. That's all it is right now. It's Favre meeting with Brad Childress. The organization has not yet met to discuss the possibility of signing Brett Favre," Glazer said in a video update.

"The organization is pretty much split. Right now, a lot of people in the organization who feel, 'Hey, we're below the radar right now. Everybody is focusing on the Chicago Bears because they have Jay Cutler. Nobody is really looking at us right now. All we have is Sage Rosenfels and Tarvaris Jackson.' That would put them obviously well on the map and well over the radar, if you will," he added.

I think "over the radar" just means people are excited about the team. We don't need that, but it's not a bad thing either. It implies that the team has talent.
It would be helpful in selling tickets.

Via the wiretap... It sounds like he will get the shoulder surgery, join the team for training camp, and is ready to go.

Listen, we did fairly well last year with a similar aged, similar mentality, but far less talented Gus Ferrotte. With Favre on the team, people will HAVE to respect the pass and therefore stop putting 8 players in the box to stop Peterson. Even at 75% he is much better than anything we have now. Sage can wait a year or maybe two and learn from one of the best ever.

Favre does lack mobility, but is still more fleet of foot than Ferrotte. He will be back in an the WCO which he ran fairly..... successfully at Green Bay and we have fast receivers that will run quick slants so Brett just has to do what he does best and zip the ball into tight spaces and let these guys go YAC. He has a lot of weapons with Peterson, Taylor, Berrian, Shiancoe, Rice and Percy (reggie bush) Harvin.

It will make us a national story and sell tons of tickets and give us more TV exposure. We need a new stadium and ironically, signing a former packer that gets it done.

I'm undecided on this whole thing. It sounds good but can be what is needed, a game manager who can make a big play when called upon - and not make stupid plays that kill a game?

He's probably not the upgrade that all this hoopla would suggest, but he's probably not a downgrade either. And if he is, you cut him, there's no long term commitment or attachment. At best, he's a QB who can make plays and win games, at worst the Vikings end up right back where they are. It worth the risk.

I guess since Chilly's playbook doesn't have any passing patterns over 8 yards that Favre might be a good fit

I'd like it better if he'd compete for the job, but naturally he's going to want a guaranteed starting spot

OK this is getting bizarro. First they say they're meeting. Then the wire says "Favre says No". Now it's at "If the shoulder doesn't require surgery he'll sign."

And Jared Allen is pushing HARD for this to happen. Maybe he remembers the Favre from his youth.

didn't all the jets players say they hated farve after the season was over? what kind of presence would he bring to the locker room? i doubt he will want to do much teaching for Tjax

They said he was distant and kept to himself, they didn't say they hated him. That's a big difference. Tjax is 26 and in his 4th year. He should already be mentored at this point.
There's enough issues with Favre's age and arm, you don't need to find new issues just because you don't like him.

ESPN - Vikings team president Mark Wilf said on Monday that the team is still seriously considering Brett Favre as an option at quarterback.

"He's a Hall of Fame quarterback. He's a great competitor," Wilf said. "Ultimately, you'll have to ask Brett what his plans are, but sure there's interest in Brett Favre. But again, it's part of a process we have in general with any of our players. We're always looking to make our team better."

HATTIESBURG, MS—Retired quarterback Brett Favre mailed his throwing arm to the Vikings Tuesday, sending the record-setting limb to the team's headquarters for evaluation in hopes of signing with Minnesota. "I made sure to bubble-wrap it, and I stuck a couple big chunks of dry ice in the envelope, so it should be fine," said Favre, who sent the appendage after the Vikings expressed health concerns with the potential signing of the 39-year-old quarterback. "Once the Vikings examine it, I'm sure they'll find that my throwing arm has no structural damage. The doctors who cut it off said it looked great." According to James "Bus" Cook, Favre's agent, the three-time MVP is unlikely to come out of retirement if the Vikings believe that his amputated throwing arm will require major surgery.

I'm indifferent to if he comes or not. If he comes, great, if not, I'm won't be the least bit sad or disappointed.
