Patriots to Franchise Cassel

Post#1 » by Celtics_Champs » Sun Jan 4, 2009 6:30 pm

Hello top ten pick.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3809444

Unless we keep him. But I doubt it. There are conflicting reports on brady. But if thats the case, I see them keeping him until after the draft, seeing how brady is, and when brady is healthy trading him then.

Actually, now looking at the draft order. Who knows who will go for a QB. Only two teams pop up, Detroit and San Fran.

They have to use the franchise on Cassel. And I agree with you they need to make sure Brady is right before moving him. I don't think the Pats will see an extra pick(s) this season. I think they will wait and get those picks for next season.

I would be incredibly surprised if Cassel suits up for the Patriots next season. It would either mean 1. Brady isn’t anywhere near ready for the start of the season or 2. the trade market is nonexistent. Given that Tavaris Jackson, Kerry Collins, Kyle Orton, Seneca Wallace, and Dan Orlovsky had prominent roles this season, I doubt the latter. And, according to Will Carroll, the former may be nothing than media-blown horsesh*t.

Mike Reiss answered the globes emails today, and mentioned and idea of Ernie Sims for Matt Cassell.

Granted, it is just a idea, not a rumor, but I would take that.

Tomorrow is the first day you can designate the franchise tag on a player. So I expect rumors to pick up heavily after they tag Cassel.

I don't know who on here brought up this idea, but I remember reading an idea of Cassel to KC for Gonzo and a later pick. Well apparently Tony still wants out of KC, hmm, who knows. But personally I don't think we need more offensive fire power and would rather land a first rounder.

ESPNews is reporting the Patriots have placed the Non-Exclusive Franchise tag on matt cassel. Which means he can negotiate with other teams.

That was fast. Perfect for both sides.

No reason to waste time I suppose. Now hopefully the Pats can find a decent deal.

Same.

Mort seems to think we will keep Cassel. I don't know what he is talking about. If we were to do that, the pats would have no money to spend on even the bottom of the barrel free agents, and would be lucky to sign our draft picks. Never spend that much on a back-up. If brady is hurt, he is hurt, we'll have to go with OC till he gets better.

Dumb Mort.

Yup, espn seems to be spewing that line, Bob Glauber(?) was saying pretty much the same thing earlier. Maybe Cassel's agent has some buddies over there?
