Patriots Defense is Old?

Post#1 » by Dirty Water » Tue Sep 8, 2009 8:07 pm

Now I usually don't mind ESPN, but I just looked at the power rankings they put out... wow.

#2, yeah that's fine. No arguing. Let the Steelers be #1 they ar ethe defending champs. But the comment about the team?

John Clayton wrote:QB Tom Brady's broad shoulders have to carry an aging defense.

Call the D unproven or hell even call it questionable... but old? Did he even look at the roster and the moves they have been making when he was writing these comments?

What is John Clayton doing as an analyst? Can someone explain to me? He looks like a 100 pounds sopping wet premature fetus who's never played a down of football in his life.

Heres a link: http://espn.go.com/nfl/powerrankings?season=2009&week=1
Rankings came out today. No excuses.

Old? Claytons a nutcase, but still, old? All he is doing is stereotyping our defense from years past, he's not looking at what BB and co did this year for roster moves.

At least bruschi is on ESPN right now. What ESPN needs to do is continue grabbing guys like schefter and weeding out the idiots like clayton. If they could somehow land Glazer. Glazer and schefter >>>>>>>>>Clayton and Mort.

Don't worry, it'll get older once Seau and Zach Thomas are signed when Belichick gets frustrated as the youngsters make too many mistakes for his stomaching.

The starters:
Ty Warren 28
Vince Wilfork turns 28 in Nov.
Jarvis Green 30, turns 31 during Wild Card weekend
Pierre Woods 27
Adalius Thomas just turned 32
Jerod Mayo 23
Gary Guyton 24
Shawn Springs 34 (I thought he was older)
Leigh Bodden turns 28 later this month
Brandon Meriweather turns 26 in Jan.
James Sanders turns 26 in Nov.
Others who play:
Derrick Burgess is 31
Banta-Cain just turned 29
Mike Wright is 27
everyone else is 25 or younger

That is significantly younger than Miami. Ayodele turns 30 on the 17th (my 37th b-day), with Porter, Bell, Taylor, Ferguson and Allen all over 30. Their average age gets brought down by the two rookie CBs but is still over a year older than New England's. Take away Springs for Wilhite or Wheatley--which I believe will happen before Halloween--and the Patriots will have one of the younger defenses in the league.

I might not be on board with the D being good, but it ain't old anymore. Funny that the Sporting News just ran a feature when Bruschi retired about how quickly the Pats D has gotten younger, but ESPN clings to antiquated assumptions.
It's not whether you win or lose, it's how good you look playing the game

John Clayton is the type of guy you'd see sitting in a McDonald's by himself at 3am eating a kids' meal.
