Bonehead Moves spell Beginning of the End

Post#1 » by Parliament10 » Wed Aug 26, 2009 7:31 am

The Underlying worst move: Letting Scott Pioli go. We should have given him anything. A promotion and a fresh start is all he wanted. F-it! Make it up! Just to keep him happy.

Next: Trading Mike Vrabel. What Bonehead okayed that! And without a proper replacement. Who does that help? Scott Pioli. He's looking out for the new team.

Next: Cassel...and Vrabel for Draft picks? Cassel, yes. But trading down, by throwing in Vrabel. Otherwise known as trading for nothing. Bonehead!

Next: Trading Ellis Hobbs (OK, maybe), Le Kevin Smith, Tank Williams, Russ Hochstein? Why on God's green would you trade Hochstein? He backs up 4 positions; 5 if you count Long Snapper.
Who the hell is Yoko, and why are we letting her call the shots? They're breaking up the Band little-by-little.

And that's what they're actively doing. What about what they're not doing. No contract extension for Wilfork. When did a Classy team like the Patriots become Dirty Rotten Scoundrels?
The success of this team has been because we played TEAM in all aspects, beyond the actual players.
Just because you have personnel, that does not spell WIN. Look at Terrell Owens. His stats are just a bit better than Randy Moss. But, ask any kid who Owens is. Doubtful they'll know. But Moss, nobody'll forget him. Not even 20 years from now. That goes back to the TEAM philosophy, that-goes-beyond-the-actual-players. All the way back up to the Owner.
The Patriots are headed for a fall, that when realized, will be about 20 wrong moves down-the-road. Unless we get someone with some damn sense.

-Pioli could have and maybe should have left in 05 with weis and crennel. He didn't. He stayed here 4 more years. He clearly wanted to run a team by himself, and go into that Parcells/BB category, rather than playing second fiddle. A promotion to what by the way? Him and BB had a great relationship. They ran the team together. Why would pioli want the pats all by itself, he wouldn't do that to a friend.

-Trading Vrabel was for salary cap reasons. They had players like Fred Taylor, and Chris Baker, ready to sign, but no money. That's where that deal came from. Now a lot of people have said, why not release Brushci, or trade him. That would have been just as hated a move. Everyone loved vrabel, but this is a business. I also got the feeling they were still trying to make a play for peppers in the long run. There was actually a few hot rumors that peppers was on his way. But cap room played a factor in that. They then went after Burgess and finally got him. A younger, more efficient player at this time. I have no problem with it.

-Cassel was traded for the 34th pick. Vrabel was essentially a add on, because he was going to be cut if they could not strike a deal. I was disappointed at the compensation we received at first too. But then reports came out that the rumored market for Cassel was all a hoax. Teams were interested, but we weren't getting Detroits number 1, or Detroits number 20. They were selling the 32nd pick.

-Ellis Hobbs: They signed 2 vet corners this year to start. Butler is looking legit. Wilhite looked good last year. All those guys I would take over hobbs.
Le Kevin Smith: Myron Pryor, Ron Brace, and the other one, name escapes me, starts with a D I believe, anyway, all those guys have stepped up, and are a few years younger.
Tank Williams: Gary Guyton, Patrick Chung, Brandon McGowan. He was either slotted number 4 on the depth chart for safety, or linebacker.
Russ Hochstein: Sebastian Vollmer really has stepped up. They need the roster spots. It's your average everyday roster trimming.

^^Minus Hobbs who actually started and played well for us at one time, I can't believe anyone would give crap to our organization for cutting 3 extra weights.

The only good point you made in this whole argument was Wilfork. I would love to see him signed, and was angry when they didn't pony up for Richard Seymour, and thought he was a lock to leave. But look how that turned out. Speak of the devil, he is up for another extension, so are a lot of players, so we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

You seem angry at BB, when clearly he has built a team with no major holes, and barring injuries, is favored, by many experts, to win the super bowl. I don't get it.

You seem to be bashing moves just made this offseason, without seeing what happens. You're a Patriots fan, cmon you know better. We give up on guys when they will no longer help us. See: Joe Andruzzi, Willie McGinest, Lawyer Milloy, etc.

You guys have good points. I am jumping the gun a bit. I'm just not happy with breaking up what works. At least, not without some class. We have done a lot of things with class that honors players. The Flutie Kick; Vinny Testeverde's 20th season with a touchdown; to not even considering dumping Bruschi after a stroke. Then, of course, Vrabel was a fantastic weapon, especially as a goal line TE. He had 10 touchdowns here.
But, we do have to go with the flow, or we wont grow.
It is a business.
By the way, we are definitely the best team.
I just want to run a steam roller over every team we play. And – I'm not ashamed to say – get that perfect season. It's unfinished business for what could be the Greatest Dynasty.
Maybe I'm spoiled. I mean, I am a Boston fan – Pats; Celts; Sox; Bruins. I'm not used to losing.

I think the Patriots are much better without Pioli. That guy is miserable at picking talent in the draft beyond the 1st round. Look at his mess in KC, he shelled out huge $$ to Cassel and he's not better than Brodie Croyle, dumped all these younger "misfits" that wind up playing pretty well elsewhere, hired a coach that has a shelf life of about 20 games before someone on his own staff kills him. He's engineering quite the trainwreck and the Patriots are better off without him.

Pioli is sure doing a great job in KC, as is Cassel, eh?

I wish we hadn't gotten rid of Vrabel and Seymour, but that's how it goes...
It's still 17 to 11!!!!
