Patriots Offseason

Post#1 » by Geoffrey P » Sun Jan 27, 2013 5:40 am

Patriots Notable Free Agents:
Kyle Arrington
Jake Ballard
Deion Branch
Patrick Chung
Marquice Cole
Julian Edelman
Dane Fletcher
Michael Hoomanawanui
Niko Koutouvides
Trevor Scott
Aqib Talib
Donald Thomas
Sebastian Vollmer
Wes Welker
Danny Woodhead

Patriots signed DL Armond Armstead and DE Jason Vega from the Canadian Football League. Armstead was an All Star while Vega recorded 12 sacks in two seasons.

First of all I hope that the offense can stay somewhat healthy. Ridley/Vereen at RB, Welker/Branch/Edelman at WR, Gronkowski/Hernandez at TE. I'm 50/50 on Welker because he's had some HUGE drops but he's been the most durable guy on the team even with averaging 112 receptions/year since coming to the Patriots. If they let him go I'm hoping they get a bigger, more physical receiver.

I really don't expect them to do much in terms of the offense. They need to get another pass rusher but more importantly they need to FIX THE SECONDARY. Resign Talib, fix the secondary, and stay healthy.

Gronk is getting out of control IMO. I know it's the offseason and all but I'd expect someone to say something, and soon.

A 23 year old getting offered to make a porn is out of control? If he doesn't get hurt I really don't care what he does. He never actually gets in trouble, never hear of him getting dui's or whatever. He's an immature 23 year old....like most 23 year old guys. Hell he's living the dream of most 23 year olds.

I hope he doesn't do it, because I already regretfully watched that Brandon Spikes video, and well, you just don't want to see your favorite athletes pieces. That's all I'm saying.

Yea it's a hell of a lot better than getting DUIs but he's really going against the grain and I'd be shocked if he doesn't get a talking to. I'm sure practicing wrestling moves on a stage in Vegas with a broken forearm isn't exactly what the Patriots would like to see.

and here it is

Get him. I don't even care about the price, it'd be worth it. Sayonara to Welker, hello to Percy. It almost makes too much sense that I could now not see it happening :(

But heck, Lloyd was a rumor all last season and we ended up with him, hopefully this works out the same way.

Harvin scares me. He gets hurt far too much for me. While I'm on the fence about keeping Welker, he sure has proved to be able to take a beating.

Pat's won't franchise Welker. Is he as good as gone?

I think so. He'll get his money somewhere else.

I think it's Seabass who gets the franchise tag if they can work something else out.

Can't believe two of my favorite players of all time, Charles Woodson and Ed Reed, are free agents, and I'm hesitant on whether I want them or not because I feel they might not have anything left in them. Age sucks.

Both Reed and Woodson still have something left in the tank IMO. Price really becomes the issue with those guys. I would also look at Eric Smith who was recently cut by the Jets.

Well looks like we'll have to now. Alfonzo Dennard probably isn't coming back next year :(

Now they're saying it might work out where he doesn't get jail time.

But the decision is POST free agency I think. Do ya take the chance?

The Pats knew what Dennard did when they drafted him and that was the risk. If he doesn't get jail time he'll be one of the starting corners. I doubt he sees the inside of a jail cell.

Brady takes a signifigant pay cut to help this team and stay a patriot.

I'd seriously lay down in a puddle and let that guy walk on me so his shoes didn't get wet.

What surprises me even more is the talk about a 5 year ~$40 million contract for Welker. I don't have a problem with that I just think they need to find someone that can take some of the load off of his shoulders. Not sure if Lloyd is really that guy.

I don't want the Pats to get too crazy dishing out money to Welker, but at the right price he can surely still put up big numbers. They need a WR that can go deep. If they had Gronk, Hernandez, Wes, plus a guy that can stretch the field, plus the running backs that they do have they wouldn't be stopped.

http://nesn.com/2013/02/report-brandon- ... -behavior/

Greg Bedard of The Boston Globe wrote Tuesday that “odds are against Brandon Lloyd’s $3 million option bonus being picked up.” Bedard cited “erratic behavior in the locker room and on the practice field” as a reason the Patriots may not choose to bring back the wideout. Lloyd has been known for his hot and cold demeanor his entire career.

Jeff Demps going back to track. But may want to be two sport athlete. Can't imagine Pats agree to that one.
