Drew Bledsoe retired Wednesday, ending a 14-year career in which he made two Super Bowls.
The top overall pick by New England in the 1993 draft out of Washington State, the four-time Pro Bowl quarterback played for the Patriots, Buffalo Bills and Dallas Cowboys. He was a starter for all three teams, but ended up as a backup with the Cowboys.

Bledsoe threw for 44,611 yards and 251 touchdown passes in his career.

"I feel so fortunate, so honored, to have played this game that I love for so long, with so many great players, and in front of so many wonderful fans," he said. "I fulfilled a childhood dream the first time I stepped on an NFL field, and the league did not let me down one time. I retire with a smile on my face, in good health, and ready to spend autumns at my kids' games instead of my own. I'm excited to start the next chapter of my life."

His tenure with the Patriots may have been maddeningly inconsistent but, in the words of my old man

I have no problem to admit Bledsoe is my favorite Pats player of all-time. Sure at time I wanted to pull my hair out, but overall I thought he did well. While he never lived up to his hype, he was very good for a peroid of time here. He made the Pats matter again and while he did lose his job he even helped in the first Super Bowl.

Favorite moment of blesdoe was in the 2001 afc championship vs pitt. When he came in for brady and led the team down the field, capping it off with a touchdown pass. Overal good career for bledsoe.

Just nothing short of a solid QB and great guy who never had the serious talent or star power to lead his team over the hump. New Englanders should thank him because he was the man who led us out of being terrible in the early 90s.

I hated the guy... He was a scumbag... you say he was a great guy, but he wasn't... I've met him numerous times and each time he found a way to be a complete dick... good ridance...

Wouldn't it be funny if he played in the arena league? Trying to keep up with the speed of that game...

Anyway, I have a feeling he'll be back in Vinny Testaverde fashion.

Bledsoe is not that kind of guy. He wants to be the man and said when he couldn't be anymore he would have no problem leaving the game. Unless someone gives him a shot to start, I think we've seen the last of Drew.

he wasnt a quarterback nearly as much as a passer, but he did some great things for this franchise, and god what an arm. i still contend there arent many guys with his arm. guys who use their arms better, sure. but some of those deep balls...

thanks for everything drew, at least we got you a ring
