Of the 10 outs recorded by Reyes, 9 were via the strikeout. And he only allowed 1 hit, but once again his control was an issue as usual. If/when he gets that worked out, we have a filthy lefty on our hands.

The most encouraging news on Humberto Sanchez
According to Cashman, pitching coordinator Nardi Contreras has changed Humberto Sanchez's arm action on his curveball to take the stress off the elbow.
"Nardi tweaked his curveball because he was hyper-extending his elbow when he threw it and that led to the problem," Cashman said of the right-hander who is on the DL with elbow tendinitis. Acquired from Detroit in the Gary Sheffield trade, Sanchez is throwing bullpen sessions in Tampa.

Whats the deal with Francisco Cervelli? This kid is a 21 years old catcher and is hitting nicely this season and did good last season. He hit .309 last year and has starting this year hitting .333. Not bad. We may be looking at our future catcher here. Why isn't he getting the recognition other prospects are getting?

He is easily out top catching prospect at the moment, and a pretty good one at that. That is the reason I put his stats in the recaps every night. He won't get recognition until he is in the higher levels of the organization, because as of now he isn't even a top 15 or maybe not top 20 prospect even in our own system.
He was signed out of Venezuela as a middle infielder, but was moved to catcher. Hes a pretty good defender thanks to his footwork but can improve on his game calling ability. Obviously hitting is his strength, and the Yankees thought enough of him to have him skip low A ball altogether. He is definitely a prospect to watch closely.

I don't know enough about him to really comment but what I would like to add is Posada isn't getting younger. Obviously Nieves is just a backup and not a long term solution at C. So I would imagine the Yanks wanted to throw him in the fire for AA to see how it works and if they should look to deal to acquire a good catcher or if they can bring one up themselves. Secondly, in AA he will see a lot more arms that will be coming up to the majors than he would in A ball. So the Yanks can observe if his game calling imrpoves with better and more experienced pitchers. Plus, if they do decide to keep these great young arms and this catcher they will already have worked together making the transition to the bigs much easer than if he was in A ball. -Jitpal

Interesting stat on Peter Abraham's blog.
-JitpalThe pitching is a disaster in the big leagues but they have it figured out in Class AA Trenton.
The Thunder have gone an amazing 46 consecutive innings without allowing a run. They swept a doubleheader from Connecticut today, winning the first game 1-0 and the second game 2-0 in 15 innings.

Well right now he is only in high A ball. Because he is 21 years old, it is possible to see him in AA some time this season if he keeps hitting the way he is. But the Yankees won't do that unless he is where they want him to be in terms of catching skills, regardless of his hitting skills.

Oh and another pleasant news last season a move that went a little unnoticed is paying off
Andres Perez
Andres Perez's cleats barely had
time to gather dirt before word got
around about his excellent form.
Even before coming onboard
with the Charleston RiverDogs, the
undrafted signee was causing a
pleasant stir during Spring Training.

Is there seriously a better hitting prospect than Jose Tabata in any minor league system? Those numbers are just sick. It's crazy how he can routinely get triples and also hit for power with the home runs. -Jitpal
