Thats a tough one, its either Moss or Thomas. I'll go with Moss because the Patriots had a horrible WR core last year. The acquistion of Moss really will change the dynamics of our offense. Brady now has a go to, pro bowl WR, one in which can go up for jump balls in the endzone and stretch the field. This is the first time in a while that the Pats have had a downfield WR were Brady can bomb it deep.

I said Stallworth, mostly because we gave up nothing to get him, and you have to factor in what we gave up when evaluating the best move. Moss cost us a 1st, Welker a 2nd, and Thomas a boatload of cap space. All great moves, IMO, but not as good as getting a solid #2 WR basically for free.
Alternative: if you simply meant which of the new guys will help the team most, I change my vote to Moss this season, and Thomas long-term.

Randy Moss cost the Patriots a 4th rounder, not a 1st rounder. I'm going with Moss as the best addition as he cost pretty much nothing in both cap space and picks.captain_cheapseats wrote:I said Stallworth, mostly because we gave up nothing to get him, and you have to factor in what we gave up when evaluating the best move. I love Adalius Thomas as well, but I'm not going to pick him simply because of how much he was paid (not that it was a bad deal, Moss was just a bargain).

Ahhh, crap, I messed that one up. We traded our 1st for San Fran's first this upcoming year, and their 4th which we ultimately traded for Moss, right? My bad. Anyway, I still stand by my pick of Stallworth. I tend to think the best additions aren't the big name ones, where you give up a ton of $$ to get a great player, but rather when you get a guy on the cheap for whatever reason, and then he breaks out and makes big contributions. Every GM in the NFL wanted Thomas; we just got him because we had the cap-space and were lucky enough to be a place he wanted to play. But getting guys out of nowhere that come in and contribute big time is what sets Pioli & Co. apart from other front-offices. I think Stallworth is going to be that guy this year, who shows why the Pats are still a step ahead.

I voted for Thomas. I was confident going into the season just with the addition of Welker and felt good about Ben Watson and David Thomas. Adalius adds a new dimension to the D, having the versitility to play OLB or ILB (which helps Vrabel) and is able to put a hand down switching from a 3-4 to a 4-3.

the one thing about thomas' versatility that is probably most important is that so far hes been the "mike". if youve noticed, tedy bruschi hasnt made as many big plays the last few seasons as he was before. yes hes been hurt, yes hes older, but my belief is that the differenceis primarily that when ted johnson retired, tedy was moved from the "jack" to the "mike" (weak ilb to strong ilb).
if thomas stays at the mike, he will be the primary signal caller and run stuffer inside. this is different for him, but will be utilizing his size and power aspects of his athleticism as well as his intelligence more than hes had a chance to do. this doesnt mean we wont see him in coverage or rushing the passer, but his base responsibilities seem like they will be to function as the rock off which our other 'backers operate.
so, in my opinion, hes absolutely the best addition, though the other guys are all great too
