Starting to look like a borderline top 10 pick, (that could change). What direction do the Pats go, area of need, personal favorites..........

Myself i would look at a young linebacker to eventually replace some of the vets there.

The consensus picks would be either Keith Rivers or Jake Laurinaitis

how about they go against the youthful grain and trade the pick to baltimore for an aging ray lewis?? ya think BAL would bite?

Too much money would be my guess, second you get guys that are on the downside like Seau and their play doesnt match the reputation.

I'll go with "james" Lauranitis, Rivers, Connor, and Cushing, one of those 4 would look good in a Pats uni.

Why would you want to trade a top 10 pick for an aging LB to join our already old LB corp? Lewis doesn't fit in the Pats LB model, at least not anymore. We need someone who can cover better. Plus, if we draft a young LB then we can slowly integrate him into the defense. You aren't going to have Tedy and Ray spliting snaps at ILB. mahalo

I have no idea who/what position the pats would draft in that high of a position.

Maybe a corner? I doubt that bill would get a corner that high.

Maybe a safety?

Maybe an Inside linebacker?

Perhaps a stud OL guy? Jake Long if we get real lucky?

A new Left Tackle wouldn't be "completely off the wall." Matt Light's been on the decline since last season and has looked downright bad at times.

With Vrabel, Bruschi and Seau all 31 or older dont you have to go for a linebacker early?

They really could go in a few different directions. I'm in the camp that thinks a linebacker makes the most sense. But I could see an OL as well. And a corner is possible as well with the fact who knows if this is the last season for Asante.

James Laurenitis makes a ton of sense. Which means we won't take him. Every year there's a linebacker who seems to fit the Patriots system perfectly, that everyone predicts we take, and we don't. Jake Long would be a good fit too.

Last year they probably would have taken Willis but werent in a position to do so, the next linebacker on the board at the inside spot was probably Pozlusny and he went in the second round. Lauranaitis and Connor would probably be the two top inside backers but if they are picking in the top half dozen that may dictate taking a better player( Glen Dorsey,Jake Long, Chris Long) or trading down a bit. just my take.

a left tackle with this pick is a no brainer. someone to join mankins and really form the jones-hutchinson combo of the future. mankins is the best left guard in football. lets him some real help at the left tackle spot. i think light is gone after this year

I thought Light has done just fine this season for the Pats. It is possible tho.

Historically though they dont put their money in the O-line(with high picks). That pick is looking better and better, i dont see the niners winning too many more this year.

he's having his best year in the past like...3-4 years. which is...average, or above average. it seems like everytime brady goes back and light has a 1 on 1 light gets initially beat and then somehow manages to wiggle back in and push the guy just outta reach of brady for brady to step forward and throw. i still get nervous when i see light will have a 1 on 1 when brady drops back.

If that lt was set, the o-line would be really dominate. But then again, this o-line has been working together for a long time. But eventually light has to go, we need someone who has s a good foundation and stance. The one thing i think, i think, light is good at is taking angles. But he just doesnt have the balance or speed for those fast rushers.

I don't really know which tackle in the draft could supply that sort of talent.

The offensive line HAS been really dominant. It's really been incredible how they've played and when they've played this well. Light may not be Walter Jones or Marcus McNeill, but he's been very good this year and the offensive line really can't play much better than it has.

I could see them trading out of the spot to pick up a lower first rounder and a pick next year, especially if they decide there's no one worth taking that high.

Would be tough to pass it up though if it's top-10 which is what it's shaping up to be.

SF is going to wind up with no more than 5 wins, so that probably puts the pick in the 4-8 range.

In my mock I put Keith Rivers, but that might be a bit high for him. I too think a trade down is pretty likely. Teams are going to want to trade up to get Darren Mcfadden or Sedrick Ellis in that range, maybe one of the T's (Long, Cherilus). IMO Laurinaitis would be perfect in the 10-15 range, but the Pats do indeed have a long history of defying conventional wisdom with their picks.
