What's our record if Brady is out for the year? 8-8? 9-7? Playoffs? Or 3-13 and terrible? Not sure, but all indications is that it looks like this is a serious injury. The jets didn't impress me too much but could the bills win the division? They looked pretty good against Seattle.

Now you guys get to see what Cassel can do, and worst case scenario you land another top 10 pick and have him join the team with Brady coming back next year. It's not like the sky is falling, man.

The Pats are in a bad spot. They have some key defensive player that are on their last legs. So if they can replace them then maybe next season they will have a shot again. If the team was to get a top 10 pick it would not be all that bad. But they are better than that and I still think win a very bad division. So they get still get a later pick.
As for this season, it will really see what Cassel can do. The team is bringing in Chris Simms to see if he can help. Look to see a lot more of the running game, maybe go back to the first super bowl and throw more screens.

Put a fork in us. We beat the pathetic Chiefs by only seven points. We saw in 4 preseason games that Cassel cant run this offense, it wont be any different during the season. The only bright spot is us getting a higher draft choice after this year.

While that sounds great, I doubt they could rekindle any of that magic from Minny. Daunte just ain't the same QB. I would much rather bring in Simms if I'm a Pats fan. He takes the spot until Brady gets back then you guys have a decent backup. Signing Daunte would be learning nothing from this injury. You had no depth behind Brady & next year you still wouldn't if you signed Daunte to a one year deal.
Invest in Simms.

We already have an investment in Kevin O'Connell. He is the future god-forbid brady's injury lingers.
Might as well win now, with cullpepper we have a real shot at going to the playoffs, in my opinion.
And where are you guys getting a top 10 pick from. Look at all the **** teams with crap QB's. Now look at there supporting cast. I say we have more then a good shot, to go above .500

Let’s look at this from a rational perspective. Cassel didn’t look half-bad yesterday. Sure, a few of his throws were cringe-worthy and he did hold on to the ball longer than he should have on deep routes but he did effectively display his better-than-average mobility, he didn’t fumble, and he was pretty good at getting the ball where it had to be on timing routes. Not bad for his first-ever relevant playing time.
This team has the easiest schedule in the league and they play in a cupcake division; they’re good money to make the playoffs even if I were lining up behind center. Once in the playoffs anything can happen, even with an inconsistent and inaccurate quarterback. Just ask the Giants.

Daunte really hasn't been given a legitimate shot since his injury. The Pats should at least work him out. I think he's got more upside than Simms and could compete with Cassell.

Either way, this is going to be a fun team to watch.
Underdogs again, I love it. It was fun seeing the magical record breaking season up until the playoffs last year, but sometimes a season where you are scrapping for a 10-7 win are pretty fun. Defense wins championships, just ask trent dilfer, who is also reporting that cassell will be the QB for the rest of the season.

spot on man. reports of our demise are being greatly exaggerated.
While Tom is a once in a lifetime type of player, he was still just one of 53. this just sort of levels the playing field for the rest of the nfl imo.
and id LOVE to see us sign Daunte. I had a bet with my brother since he went to MIA that hed be in another probowl( i know, i must have been lit for that one). well friday I called and made my concession speech. come on bill n scott, save me that dinner!!!

Considerin that TB will be down for a while, I'll say the Pats will have either a 12-4 record or 11-5 record. Sure losin TB hurts and will change the morale of the Pats, but they still have the neccessary players to have another wininnin season. Now will they have enough to get to the SB is another big question.

Now that i've got the shock of losing Brady out of my system I'm kind of eager to see how far this ship can sail. I seem to like the Bills a lot more than other people do but 10 wins and a wild card berth are still pretty feasible for the Pats in my view.

This sucks. Instead of winning the superbowl will be lucky to make the playoffs. I hopes Cassel can do it. Just manage the game Matt.

Anyone else hope they give Jake Plummer a call?

I'm not sure all is lost yet, you guys have the easiest schedule in the league and a very good but very old defense. Cassel looked decent against KC and he has some weapons to work with.

I think the Patriots will hide Cassell enough that he doesn't lose games but I'm not as confident in the defense. Like sunshinekids said earlier, some of the defensive players are on their last legs. The secondary is pretty bad right now.
I'm still picking the Patriots to win the division. There is no reason why they can't win 10 games.

No need for Plummer if you're the Pats. Just give Cassel a chance to see what he can do.

I think the Bucs still have Plummer's rights, so we'd have to make a trade to get him. I could be wrong though.

You are right. I don't know if you guys would even consider a possible trade now. TB would ask for something more than Jake is worth because they think you're in a bind. Plus, would Jake even come out of retirement?
