Ok I calmed down emotionally a bit. We sitll have Jarvis Green. I still don't understand, our defense (albeit not our line) is a bit questionable this year and I'm not so sure this move is the greatest if we are really concerned about winning NOW. considering how anemic the Raiders are, it's not a bad pick,. Maybe 2010 would have been better, but It's not terrible. you have to think it will be top 15 at worst.

Good luck in Oakland Richard, you will need it. We will certainly miss you and you were one of those guys that was a true Patriots on Bruschi's level. Maybe one day you can come back.

In Bellichick we trust.

One of my favorite players on the team. But lets be honest he's been a bit of an injury concern of late and he's not the same player he was a few years ago. This is a no brainer IMO. Seymour was a goner at the end of the season and they got a very good first round pick. That Raiders team will still suck in two years.

:jawdrop: Stunner.

Sentimental:

When we signed seymour that first time, I thought for sure he was gonna be a career patriot. I had his jersey since 03, and have literally worn it while watching every patriots game that I can think of. Minus one time against the bears. So to see him go, not only stuns me, but saddens me. Good luck big sey 93. :(

Alright enough of that mushy stuff:

Hopefully this means we can sign wilfork soon. The good news is, we are stacked at d-line. I'm guessing BB's plan this year was to transform his team to a 4-3. It actually makes the a lot of rumors and trades make sense. The peppers rumors, why trade so much for a guy who might not make it as a LB? Because they planned on using him as a defensive end. The vrabel trade. BB probably knew bruschi was on his last legs. This is how our D shakes up from my look

Burgess----------Wilfork--------------Warren--------------J. Green
Backups: Wright, Pryor, Brace.

Thomas-------------Mayo-------------- ??
Backups: Guyton, Banta Cain, Woods

corners ya already know.

Boy does it feel weird not typing the names bruschi, seymour or vrabel.

BB really shook up the team this year, lets see how this works.

Shocked...

clearly a move for the future, this is definitely in the best interest of the franchise as he was going to expire after this season. This also frees up room to resign Wilfork and Mankins.

To be able to get a first round pick for an aging D-lineman who is going to turn 30 (granted one of the best at his position) and want a big payday is a great move.

So IMO it's a very smart trade for the future and getting value for a player the pats were probably going to lose, but how does it affect the team for this season?

I'm guessing we will see much more of a base 4-3 defense, and this will open up a lot more PT for the young guys like Brace and Pryor.

I'm also guessing BB has a lot of confidence in the remaining depth in Defensive line or else this trade would not have been done.

Also, one last interesting tidbit about this, normally the pats don't usually keep or want high 1st rounders because of the salary given to them, but if the talks about rooking wage scale true, then they might try to get a big name prospect with that pick in 2011 rather than trading down for multiple picks.

Schefter puts it best:

Real deal: Five defensive starters from last season -- Seymour, Bruschi, Vrabel, Harrison, Hobbs -- no longer with the Pats. D in transition

Anyone have any ideas one what we will pick with the draft pick in 2 years... long time in the future I know. But what if it becomes a top 5 pick... what position would you go after?

It will probably end up being at least a top 8 pick. BB will probably trade it for something(or things) of more value and less cash. iirc he unusually uses high draft picks.

Why isn't wilfork or brady extended yet :-?

Someone on sportsdesk made a great point, well I don't know how great it is, but it makes sense, we haven't heard from richard yet. I can only imagine how hurt he was by this trade. :( I doubt we ever see him back here. This is like cutting milloy all over again.

I'm really hoping Brace steps up. It'd be a nice story, hometown team and all. Pryor is a helluva player as well though.

As for who we would get with that pick. Too early to tell. But oakland will be crappy. They could losing Nnamdi and big sey.
