Is Adalius Thomas getting released?

Post#1 » by Rockice_8 » Thu Mar 11, 2010 3:10 pm

I heard there was a rumor he was getting realeased and I haven't heard anything since. Can anyone fill me in on this? Has a decision been made to keep him or release him? Thanks.

I don't know what they plan to do with Thomas. With the no cap in place there is no motivation to cut him now he is owed 4.9 mil for this season in salary and 5.9 mil for next year but they can cut him whenever to save that money. I imagine they are going to try and trade him first it would seem to me that he would be worth 5 mil for one season even at 32 years old. Either way I am sure the Patriots are going to view this one through their own eyes only.

They probably need to keep him just for a body because as of now the only outside LB's under contract are Banta-Cain, Ninkovich, Woods and Thomas.

Yeah I know the money isn't really a big deal but if there is friction between the coach and player thats not good. When it's all said and done I think he's probably gone once they can add some depth there. Is there a deadline to cut guys?

No there is no deadline you can cut someone whenever you want. The issue is usually the remaining prorated signing bonus that hits the cap, and the motivation is to get under the cap to use the money to sign someone else. After June 1st you are allowed to spread the hit over two seasons, but that isn't factor this season as teams will want to take the cap hits all this year. The issue is simply whether Thomas is worth 5 mill bucks to the Pats or someone else this year.
