Oshae Brissett
I guess it hasn't dawned on me until now, but with how the draft went, and realistically not thinking Pacers will be in on Miles Bridges (i think that rumor of bogus), TJ Warren rumors have gone silent, Jalen Smith all but certain to be gone.... is Oshae Brissett going to be our starting 4 on opening night?
As the roster stands now, he's pretty much a lock to start imo.

Really depends on possible upcoming trades and possible free agent signings.
Personally I think he’s in the Pacers future plans but not as a starter unless upgrades aren’t available or financially possible this off season.

Right now, he has to be? Maybe Jackson or a potentially re signed Warren/Jalen Smith?
But yeah. Oshae was a big “winner” of draft night.

Team option on his contract must be picked up by Wednesday.

I recall Tony East with an article saying that the Pacers possibly will not pick it up and then can resign him to a new contract to have control of him longer.

Correct. This would be the last season of possible restricted free agency. If we pick up his option, he will be unrestricted next summer. We did similar with Sumner a few years ago.

Someone will have to remind me how this works. If the team picks up his option, he could then become an UFA the following year? If that is the case, I can see them wanting to give him a new contract instead.

Have to wonder if this is the Pacers way of telling us there will be even more young guys added in the near future and they just don’t see Oshae as that great of a prospect?

Quite possible. They like what he’s contributed since bringing him in at a bargain basement price. Who wouldn’t ?
They’re definitely sending a message to him they want to see more growth and then they’ll decide if he’s in our future.
I figure they’re gambling that his improvement after this season won’t be through the roof and if it is they’ll pay up then if he breaks out.
Therefore not extending him as we hoped and gambling on his anticipated growth is probably a smarter move.

They couldn’t come to an agreement in terms for an extension. As such, he was likely to just sign his QO, which would leave Indy in the same position next year, but with paying him more money.
