When trading Reggie or even David West, players who have achieved something, it makes some sense to ask the player their preference. Asking Malcolm, dear lord, it reminds us that the biggest underachiever of these failed years, is still on the team, taking important decisions.
Luckily for us, this should be a tank year, but after the season we need a bit more Putin thinking from our leaders. They are employing men, not babies.
I think this was overstated. Brogdon now quoted as saying Washington was the other interested team but dropped out of bidding after the draft. Do you really believe we took a lower offer? I don't.

First, he allowed the Pacers to let him run the point, which he can't. Then he had issues with 2 coaches, who the Pacers fired and now he get's to decide what players the Pacers will build with, Raptor players being the other options, all while making the Pacers mediocre at best.
This franchise thinks that giving players so much is a good way to lure other good players, but it isn't. You often have to take what is available, or others will take it and build a better team. If our front office doesn't have any kind of tiny preference for either the Raptors of Celtics package, then they aren't doing their job properly. Every player has the potential to surprise the entire NBA and followers. That's the beauty of the human mind. If Nesmith has the right mindset, he can go high in the NBA, but so can one of the Raptors package. Leaving that up to Malcolm, is very strange in an environment that claims to be highly professional.
