Sonics relocation vote- can you help?

Post#1 » by jambalaya » Sat Feb 16, 2008 1:20 am

Enjoy all-star weekend. Some Sonics fans are flying an airplane banner saying "Stop Clay [Bennett]- Sonics must stay! there tomorrow afternoon. If you think teams should stay put and respect the fans and would be willing to drop your team owner an e-mail saying vote no on relocation or say the same to Stern we'd appreciate any support. Thanks.

Nah...basketball has become too big in Indiana for this franchise to move for a long while. The Bucks are worse this year and have been worse for a long time now and still nobody's talking about them moving.

Memphis is next.

I agree with FreeRon .. basketball is a part of Indiana, and you'll have a team for a long time.

I probably should have listed these but I didnt wanted to be too pushy and thought they could be found easy enough.

E-mail to Stern (or use the address listed there for a real letter)

Pacer contact info (direct to President or Owner)

Thanks for any help.

Sorry to say, but Sonics are doomed. They build a new stadium for baseball and new stadium for football and didn't think twice to shut down the basketball arena. The team has never been even that well supported in the past as i remember, even in mid-90s. They got Jeff Green and Kevin Durant and now the fans are crying foul to stay. Sorry, i don't want to rain on your parade, but i wouldn't mind a team in Oklahoma City.

The team has gotten pretty good support for 41 years. But we'll see what happens.

Good luck your team.

I will have to agree that Washington has done little to build a new stadium and encouraging our owner to block a move is not the answer. Show us a plan on how our state (I live in the Couv) proposes to remedy the situation.

Of course Seattle city officials must do their part. They say they have a proposal to upgrade Key Arena and have or are trying to hook a local owner to be and corporate naming rights partner (rumored to be Steve Balmer & Microsoft). Until they release the plan it isn't real. Even when they do it is only has a chance if Stern decides in the end to give it one by giving Bennett what he wants (a team in OKC) another way.

The city has plans to vote to improve the general Seattle Center complex in November 2008 and will decide in late March or April if that will include an upgrade or replacement of Key Arena. So they have the chance to act and maybe succeed. But they might not and if they don't the remote chance will decline considerably.
