Chad Ford Chat Wrap: Pacer style

Post#1 » by count55 » Wed Feb 20, 2008 7:52 pm

Justin (PROVO): Jarron Collins, Jason Hart, and Mo Almond for Jeff Foster... what do you think? I hear Mr. Bird is very high on Almond, and the Jazz could use a defensive big man to back up Okur.

Chad Ford: I think Jeff Foster has much more value than that. He ranks as one of the top 5 best offensive rebounders in the game, is more athletic than people think, and he's got size. I think there will be a lot of teams trying to snag him from Indiana. He's the perfect type of sixth man for a team with championship aspirations and he has a very reasonable contract.

Brock (Anderson, IN): The Pacers have been shopping JO and heard some rumblings about JT. Any chance of either or both can be moved by Thursday. Dont you think its time the Pacers start with a bit of rebuilding mode?

Chad Ford: The problem is that teams are wondering about Jermaine O'Neal's health. Here's the crazy thing, just a year and a half ago, we were talking about JO as a superstar. He's had some injury issues, but he's 29 and doesn't have a ton of miles on his legs. Why wouldn't a team make a run at him if they could, like Phoenix did with Shaq, get their doctors to take a look? I think he has a lot left in the tank and should be commanding a bigger price tag. That's why Indiana won't give him away ... they know he's more valuable than the current offering price. Tinsley? He's been mentioned on the block for a while ... he's great one night, injured the next. I'm not sure what his value is. As for rebuilding? I think Indiana would do it, but they can't just give away JO. It has to be a deal that gives them back young players, draft picks or a guy like Shawn Marion.

Interesting...we knew Foster had value, but that's the strongest endorsement I've seen of JO for awhile.
I have no idea what you're talking about, and clearly, neither do you.

Interesting. I'm honestly a little shocked as to what he said about Foster's value. If Utah offered that up, I'd be pretty interested in it. Maybe if we added in our 2nd rounder this year and Utah's 1st rounder would the value be about equal?

We don't have a second this year do we? I coulda sworn we traded it for Stanko.

We do. We are receiving Phoenix's 2nd rounder this year (to complete the James Jones trade) which we will be routing to Portland (to complete the James White trade/fiasco). We then traded our 2009 2nd round pick to Miami for Stanko, meaning we retain our 2nd round pick in this year's draft.

Yeah, if you listen intently, you might be able to hear Larry as he's leaning back in his office chair with his legs crossed and petting a cat that's sitting in his arms.

Haha, yo could you check out of the JO trade thread in the trades section. Could I get banned for that? I was trying my best to hold back.

Interesting. I have a gut feeling JO just breaks down way too much, which will keep his trade value low. I am not sure it will ever get back up to where the Pacers think it is. I hope I am wrong though.

Also, as much as I love Foster, that package Utah has might be enough to pry him away.

The key to these forums is to always attack the post, and never attack the poster. You might be a little close to the line there.

Not exactly...we send Portland the lower of our two second round picks. So we send Portland Phoenix's pick, and keep our own second rounder. Next years goes to Miami regardless though.

My bad I read your post wrong. It is not different at all from what you said, lol. My brain is in a sad state these days...my apologies.
