Also, cdash, I'm sorry I misunderstood you, but you keep sounding like you want to tank this season.

I never want to see the Pacers intentionally tank. If we lose basketball games, that's fine (in the current state the team is in), but we need to be doing everything we can to try to win the basketball game. I'd love to see the Pacers make the playoffs or I'd love to see them get a Top 10 pick (especially in this year's draft)...but what I don't want to see, is us getting stuck in another purgatory where we get neither.

No interest at all in a first round beating.
Tanking is unprofessional and sends a poor message to the organization, but am I hoping for us to again eek out enough wins to earn a pounding and a worse player next season?
No!
We might possibly win the lottery if we miss the playoffs right?
Don't you think a top two or three pick may generate some much needed excitement?

Another Dale Carnegie success story.
I have no idea what you're talking about, and clearly, neither do you.

That darned Dale Carnegie. Who is he to tell us to succeed and stuff? (Besides having his book be the #2 all-time bestseller ever; #1 is the Bible).

spaulding, if your logic is correct, then the entire Pacers organization, as well as any other 6th seed and below, is off their rocker. If tanking takes hold, ANY team below 6th seed instantly becomes mush. Then it's a contest to see who sucks more. Is that what we really need in the NBA now? One team tanks, all other teams do, too. Also, even if you have no chance to succeed in the playoffs, we still have 16 teams who want to do it for a reason.

Most of all, how could anyone in their right mind want the Pacers to lose?

Making the playoffs wouldn't be an accomplishment, it would be a diversion. A higher draft pick would mean much more to this team than a playoff series, which would be both insignificant and forgettable in the long-run.

Unless something crazy happens, the top-5 is out of reach. The Clippers
are only 2.5 games back at #6, though. They're catchable. The #6 team also has around a 22% chance of jumping into the top-3, not half bad.

I don't know if we can "catch" the Clippers, they stink on ice right now. Although there is still some talk that Brand will be back before the end of the season. Although God knows why the Clippers would put him back out there to risk further injury in meaningless games.

In keeping with the "nothing ever goes right" theme of the previous four years, the Pacers have a very easy homestretch, with the majority of their remaining 19 games against weak teams, a lot of them at home. I fear the Pacers could win as many as 8 to 10 more games this season. That would probably push us down to around the ninth or tenth pick in the draft. Maybe lower, since we are "competing" against some teams that have been every bit as lousy as us lately.
