Post#1 » by PR07 » Wed May 7, 2008 9:54 pm

Press Release -
The Indiana Pacers announced Wednesday that David Morway has been promoted to General Manager of the team.

Morway, who has been with the Pacers 10 years, has been serving as Senior Vice President/Basketball Operations for the team, overseeing the day-to-day operation and administration of the Basketball Division. As General Manager, he will retain his current duties and will assume additional responsibilities of overseeing salary cap issues as well as assisting Pacers President of Basketball Larry Bird with all personnel decisions.

I've read a few articles on ESPN Insider about Morway being GM candidates for other teams, and that he is a rising star in the front office. I can't claim to know much more about him than what I've read, but I like it.

I guess i lost $20. lol I was at a bar during a telecast and Reggie Miller was on TNT and i said i how he's my idol, and my Knicks fan friend was saying he'll never be a GM so i told him my theory of we havn't named anyone yet and i think the reason was to wait til playoffs end to hire Reggie. oh well... it was a drunken bet. oh well.

I do like the move.

Morway seems to be a pretty sharp guy, so I consider it good news that they've given him a bigger role.

In fact, I kinda wish that Bird was assisting him with personnel decisions, instead of vice versa.

As long as he's fiscally smart, I'll love him. Doesn't hurt to have one guy on staff to always point out the salary cap ramifications of moves.
