Indiana-Cleveland trade scenerios....

Post#1 » by dwpacer » Sun Jun 8, 2008 4:17 am

Yeah, I like everybody else looked the draftexpress article and went a little confused, but here's something that's weird at least in my mind.

This is the SECOND Indiana-Cleveland trade that has come up in the last 30 or so days that was reported through the media.

The first came in the middle of last month, a rumor that went as far as Chad Fort of ESPN Insider. The Deal...

Jermaine O'Neal for Ilgauskas, Varejao, Jones, and the Cavs 2008 1st round pick.

Then you have the second deal from a few days ago....

Jermaine O'Neal and #11 for Szczerbiak and Snow.

The first was vehemenently refuted by the Cavs, the second by the Pacers.

Old saying about gossip, the first time you hear something is a rumor, the rest is all pure speculation.

So let's just say the first is all rumor, where can we speculate this is going?

I give up...

EDIT: Sorry, thought this was in the trade section, I was about to lose my mind with that Nate Knick guy running around.

Any trade of JO to the Cavs is bad for the Pacers because it is a division rival. If we package the 11th pick in any deal to dump salary I will not watch another Pacer game for 5 years.

Yes it is a division rival but this is the offseason. I have seen teams make deals over the last few years make deals with the devils within their own conference, even if it means our own conference or division for that matter.

The important thing is that the Pacers can rebuild with Granger in two years and it also keep James in Cleveland and unable to join Wade, Bosh, or any other host of players come 2010.

I'd take James and O'Neal vs. James and Wade/Bosh any day.

Really, havent we beat this dead horse enough? Lets at least make up BS scenarios for other teams. JO to the Nuggets for Camby, Najera, and Atkins. Anything else. I'm tired of these stupid Cav trades, we have been over all of them.

Well sure we've seen a trade just a few years back where we traded in our division. Jalen Rose and Travis Best to the Bulls for Artest/Millier and filler. We definetly got the better of that deal although at the time people said the opposite, now we don't have anything left to show for it since Miller went to the Kings and Artest went insane. :o

We could do a deal with the Cavs but I can't see us giving them JO for Wally and Snow and giving them the pick for their trouble. This is a dead horse but I'll kick it one more time. Everyone knows what we have to have, a pick, one prospect, and salary for the CBA. Right now I don't see it happening. JO has only 2 season left on his contract and yeah it's huge money I say we keep him for now if he isn't ready to play at the beginning of the season let him sit until he is ready. If we can get some games out of him maybe he'll give us what we need at PF if he plays other teams can see he is playing and he won't be as risky.

JO hold the key to the future of this team, if we keep him and he returns even 80% of his old production level he is the best PF on this team. Or we move him after he shows what he can still do. In any event if we keep him till spring or next summer he is an expiring contract that could be traded for some serious value. Even if he seems to be over the hill. What could we get from some team for a $23 million expiring contact?
