Draft News NOT related to Pacers

Post#1 » by Grang33r » Wed Jun 25, 2008 5:37 am

ESPN is reporting, that New Orleans Hornets have traded it's 27th pick to Portland for "cash". I just saw it on ESPN News.

Hmm, Larry Bird MUST be up to something, if he had no other deals about to happen, i don't think he would have passed this up, even though 27th is kinda low, but i find it interesting that Portland wants to deal it's 13th pick yet they get another one. lol

I'd love to have Portland's GM. That guy seems to do everything right.

Im guessing this prob means that they'll def trade the 13 then unless they just got the 27th to repackage into another deal. With how young they are and Oden and Rudy both essentially being rookies i doubt theyre going to add 2 more first round rookies to their team. I just wonder who their guy would be down that low. Hopefully we get the 13

I have also heard the Heat might very well draft Mayo at 2 if they keep the pick. How crazy would that be?

I'll bet my pay check on this one Portland is gonna make a deal with the Suns for Barbosa look for them to move the 2 picks 27th and 13th along with either Outlaw or Webster and Jack for Barbosa.

Chad Ford says on espn.com that a person in the know tells him Heat are in talks with Memphis to deal the 2nd pick. Apparently it would be Mike Conley Jr and the 5th pick for the 2nd and Cook. Heat would then draft Kevin Love or Brook Lopez.

Now that would be crazy. Conley Jr - Wade - Marion - Love - Mourning

Not saying that couldn't happen...but wow, to me it is so clear that Beasley is the best player in this draft. Rose will probably be a nice player and all, maybe even an occasional All-Star, but Beasley is going to be an All-Star year after year. Did these GMs not watch him play last year?!? In one of the nation's best conferences, he led the country in rebounding and scored something like 25 points a game. As a freakin' freshman! He was better in college than Kevin Durant. I'd take him at #1, and I'd be flabbergasted if he got past #2.

Yeah, I'd be shocked if Beasley didn't go #2. I just don't see Mayo ultimately being a guy that you really want on your team over a guy like Beasley.

Thought I'd put this in here.

ESPN's Ric Bucher is reporting that Darrell Arthur has a kidney issue that teams are shying away from. About half of NBA teams seem to think it's not a big deal, while the other half are saying that their team shouldn't touch him at all.

As Bucher put it, "Arthur's sinking like an anvil on draft night...."

The Blazers are the Yankees of the NBA, they just throw money at people because they have the richest owner it sports. People should not be allowed to buy draft picks when it gives certain teams a serious advantage.

The thing is, no one is stopping other teams from doing the same thing. Sure, Allen is the richest owner, but its not like he is the only owner who could afford to buy late first round picks.

I agree with this, to me Beasley is the best player in the draft hands down. I guess you never know though. If he does not go 2 I think it is a case of someone overthinking things.
