We don't have Kareem under contract, and it's highly unlikely we'll re-sign him.

Re: Oregonian reporting Bayless traded to Portland
Jack is an expiring. Ike didn't figure into our plans so McRoberts is at worst a wash. if McRoberts does anything it is a plus. I have no idea when the trade was made but moving down two picks isn't a big deal. yes, Bayless was rated high on some draft boards but he would have gone higher if the people above us had agreed with the pundits. they didn't. Rush has true two guard size and range, and can defend.
I went to the draft party, couldn't find a seat, and went home and watched on TV. I did hear a rumor that a Tinsley deal is done too but can't be announced until July.

That would be wonderful.

Re: Oregonian reporting Bayless traded to Portland
You know, I love how you say "you don't back out of a deal", but then this is stupid. Why make a deal before you see who is available on the board. Even Sam Presti and Baylor knew that when baylor was trying to move up to 4.
This shows how inept larry bird is if he agreed to a trade before he saw who was available.
Augustin is pure point, and Bayless is a combo. Brown wanted a pure point, which is why Augustin was taken ahead.
He slid because people never really expected him to go past 4.

Bayless was rated high on some draft boards but he would have gone higher if the people above us had agreed with the pundits.
eg... Danny Granger
I guess this means Diener is done too.
To be honest there is no way to draw any conclusions because of all the movement. The only thing I know is that if Bayless is the next Tony Parker, like the pundits specualted, then Bird deserves to be fired. Time will tell.
As far as our roster is concerned, Larry really did a good job of rounding it out. Regardless of the talent we got, our roster is more traditional today.

Re: Oregonian reporting Bayless traded to Portland
Of course, there's always the possibility that Bird & Morway, like the seven teams in front of him, either didn't like Bayless or liked someone batter. I'm not saying they're right, but it remains to be seen.
My question remains: why did Westbrook, Gordon, and Augustin all go ahead of him? Why did NY reach for Gallinari and Milawukee reach for Alexander? I could understand those decisions when Bayless was gone at 4, but why didn't it change as he fell?
I'm not being conspiratorial here. I'm also not trying to justify Bird's decision. I honestly would love to hear each of their (honest) reasoning and thoughts on Jerryd Bayless in re: their pick. It would be helpful as we watch the outcome and judge their decisions.
BTW...Marcus Williams fell like a rock, and we passed on him and were right. (Maybe we should've taken Rondo, but MWilliams looks to be a bust.) So while the Granger example works on one side, the Williams example works on the other...leaving us a 50/50 experience on whether the guy deserved to fall or whether everybody (including us) was just being stupid.

Count, Marcus dropped because he stole some computers. That's a pretty good reason to drop him on every draft board. He still may be a serviceable player though.
Bayless, like Granger, just fell.

Granger fell because of (unfounded) concerns about his knee.
"Just fell" may end up being the best I get, but I really hope for a little more. What concern, founded or unfounded, made people pass.

The way things played out I think teams were drafting for need instead of talent. Fortunately for Portland nobody needed a lightning quick combo-guard after LAC.

Re: Oregonian reporting Bayless traded to Portland
Why did Paul Pierce drop all the way to 10 when he was projected to go 3rd? Sometimes things just happen, teams outsmart themselves. They become commited to an idea, sell themselves on the guy they want and stick to it when another guy falls. They don't want to reconsider or change their decision, they stick to the plan.
