Next summer move by Larry Bird?

Post#1 » by Grang33r » Sun Jun 29, 2008 3:27 am

How will Larry Bird strike next in his next step of fixing our team? I mean impact moves, not signing Roy Hibbert to a contract. lol

I personally think Jamaal Tinsley will be moved very shortly. If it's possible for him to be dealt by July 9th, i think they will, if not, then shortly there after. I don't think Bird is looking for Ford and Jack to arrive here with a guy like Tinsley still in town.

While I dont think there's a snowballs chance in hell that Tinsley is here to sabotage our new crop of players, I think Bird will have a hard time trading him, and I dont think they want to talk buy-outs just yet. Williams is easier to trade and probably has some value, so I'll go with Shawne getting moved.

I see a package of Shawne/Daniels for a PF.

Also, if anyone looks at Shawne's stats from this year and doubles them, Shawne had better numbers than Granger did in his second year in less time. Obviously Shawne was playing against second units though.

I just thought it was interesting.

i was hoping the raptors would get either daniels or williams in the trade to give us soome more depth at the wings, williams being very athletic and young and daniels being a solid role player overall...as long as his role is defined i belive he is a fine player off the bench.

Shawne/Daniels for Bargnani/Graham?

Seems pretty close, but I'm sure Colangelo would probably not want to have to deal with the backlash of moving the #1 pick they had such high hopes for.

For Indy, Joey Graham would probably be a candidate to be cut in training camp along with McRoberts or Stephen Graham, that is, if a training camp invitee really interests the club.

Bargnani would be THE backup at PF to Murphy and would probably get about 20 minutes a night with Murphy getting the other 28. This would also allow Granger to stay at the SF at all times, and Foster and Rasho to stay at the center position full time.

Foster/Rasho/Hibbert
Murphy/Bargnani/Baston/McRoberts
Granger/Graham/Graham

I'm going to say trade/buy-out Tinsley just because it's the only move we know for a fact they are going to make. However, I think the Pacers will wait out as long as possible in the hopes of trading him, so in reality, I think there will probably be some trade to bring in a PF in the not-too-distant future. Errr...sorry for my ramble.

As for Bargnani, I don't think Toronto does it. I think he still has a chance to be a really good player, and I'm not sure they can sell their fans that they traded their #1 pick two years removed for two knuckleheads in Daniels and Shawne Williams.

ya...the only chance of bargnani being traded is if it is a legitimate starting wing player (i.e. maggette quality-ish)

im not saying it's what we deserve, i just cant see him being traded for less...and i would rather give him one more year to prove himself than trade for those two...what i was saying is i was hoping one of them was a throw-in, or maybe we coulda added humphries and graham in return for one of them.

i say humphries because the way jawai is tlaking it seems he REALLY wants to be something in the nba...and i like his skillset and attitude.
humphries seems very near to haslem when playing as great...can hit the open jumper, likes to attack the rim for dunks, only problem is he gets caught up in himself by taking odd fading jumpers in the lane...otherwise he provides great hustle and energy off the bench, and he's young.

here is one of his best career games against the heat last year with zo, had something like 9/10 off.rebounds and 18 total rebounds.

Oh, I certainly understand. You almost HAVE to give the man a 3rd year just to see what happens, but I can't see him getting too much playing time with Bosh and JO getting so many minutes there in the post (so long as JO is healthy), and as of this point, Bargnani's value is probably close to Shawne Williams plus a semi-useful swing man with an expiring contract in Daniels.

How about these two?

A. Shawne Williams and Marquis Daniels for Al Harrington

The Golden State will have many free agents this summer, and they may only focus on Baron Davis, Monta Ellis, and Andris Biedrins. Souce says that they wanted to deal with Al Harrington. So, I think
the trade would benefit to both teams.

or

B. Shawne Williams and Jamaal Tinsley for Malik Rose and David Lee (or future draft pick)

The Knicks need a point guard to play fast with thier new coach, Mike D'Antoni. If they cannot get Raymon Felton from the Bobcats or Kirk Hinrich from the Bulls, Tinsley may be thier next target. Malik Rose's contract: 1yr 7.6M could give the Pacers more salary space next summer to extend some playes, such as Danny Granger, Jeff Foster, and Jarrett Jack.

That Knicks deal is a DREAM for Indy, but there's no way we could get it. I don't see NY doing a Tinsley for Rose deal, nor a Lee for Williams deal, unless D'Antoni and Walsh really just don't want to deal with Lee.

Heck, even if Lee refused to re-sign with Indy, I'd still be pretty ok with it to get rid of Tinsley. Maybe we could then S&T Lee for something, or maybe he'd see the light and end up seeing that he could fit in a high-speed offense that caters to his hustle and rebounding skills.

I like either the Golden State deal (Harrington would be welcomed back again!) or the New York deal (Walsh might think he can steal Tinsley's potential and Williams by giving them a change of scenery). I hate the proposed Toronto trade. That does nothing for us.

I'd trade Tinsley to Houston for Bobby Jackson. He's in the last year of his deal and he's 35 years old. It might take more than that since Tinsley still have 3 yrs left so we could throw in Williams and get Aaron Brooks. Kills two birds with one stone.

I actually think Houston values Aaron Brooks more than they would value Shawne Williams.

This would be awesome. I am still hoping for a 3rd trip back to Indy for Harrington. I really think he got a raw deal last time he was here and i think Larry Bird included him in the deal only as a incentive for Golden State to take on Stephan Jackson. I don't think that deal goes through without a player like Harrington included. We could definetly use him back now though. He'd be a for sure starter at Power Forward.

B. Shawne Williams and Jamaal Tinsley for Malik Rose and David Lee (or future draft pick)

Like someone said, this would be a dream deal for Indiana. David Lee is a solid player. I don't see the Knicks doing it, if their Felton deal falls through, i think they will just keep Lee.
