Marreese Speights

With the aquisition of Brand, do you think there is any possible way we could pull off a trade for Speights. I love his energy. Could perform extremely well in Obie's system, thoughts?

Nah...I'm pretty sure they'll want to keep Speights in case Brand doesn't come back fully. They'll at least want him to develop under Brand for a while just to see if he can be close to as effective so they have some options. I can't see anything we could really offer that would be reasonable for both teams.

Who would we trade to get him? I would think the asking price would be pretty steep, so I am not thinking it will happen. If there was a way to get him relatively cheap though I would be all for it.

Two rookies in the rotation is enough for me.

That is a very good point but if they lost Iggy and wanted Daniels for Spieghts I would not hesiate to do that trade.

But there's no way they'd take Daniels for Speights because all Daniels is worth is his expiring contract...

They definitely would want more than Daniels for Speights. It would probably take at least a future protected 1st rounder, if not a bit more. We could take on Willie Green's 3 year contract if they'd want that, and that might be the only realistic option that could intrigue Philly. Our only prospect they'd probably have any interest in would be Brandon Rush at SG, and probably only if they lose Iguodala to the Clippers. They already have a SF/PF tweener they love in Thaddeus Young, and Jarret Jack is an expiring, so they probably wouldn't have interest in trading a guy like Speights for him.

My guess is that they just sprinkle Speights into the PF/C rotation with Dalembert and Brand, let him learn and grow at his own pace, and then see what they have in him before they move him.

I also forgot to welcome you Miller101. I've been away all weekend, but look forward to reading your contributions throughout the future. Thanks for joining us. This is an exciting, yet nervous time for us Pacers fans and it's going to take all of us to get through this rebuild.

Morway says we tried to trade back into the draft all the way to the second round and had no takers. no doubt we tried to get the pick that was used on Speights. they turned down all our offers on draft night. I don't think the signing will make them like the same offers any more now.

Thanks for the welcome scoot, looking forward to the upcoming season. :wordyo:

Hopefully this rebuilding process gives us a young exciting team that this basketball starved city can get behind again.
