hello all - long time forum reader, first time poster.
just thought i would float my trade idea to get the pacers where they need to be.
tinsley to miami
nesterovic, shawne williams, marcus banks, & daequan cook to sacramento
ron artest & marquis daniels to the lakers
lamar odom & kenny thomas to the pacers
miami's end of the deal is probably most questionable (not sure how they value cook, but they don't really have another contract that makes this work very well) - wouldn't be opposed to extending some sort of additional consideration to them.
sacramento gets rid of kenny thomas' contract and picks up some young pieces while increasing cap space.
the lakers get an expiring contract in marquis daniels rather than having to take on kenny thomas' contract which sacramento was demanding as part of an artest deal - this is a much more preferable scenario.
the pacers get rid of all the players they have been considering trading - tinsley, daniels, & williams. also included is nesterovic, who has been conspicuously absent from the 'meet the new guys' promotions (yeah, i know he is in europe, but still...) in exchange they take on kenny thomas' contract which isn't much fun, but somebody had to bite the bullet in this deal. the crown jewel for the pacers is odom. after a lot of analysis, i really think that odom is the optimal option at the 4 position for the pacers. his combination of offense, defense, rebounding, and ability to play an up-tempo style are key. keeping our front court together will be expensive, as granger, odom, & foster will all command new contracts at the end of this season. however, i would wager that our money would be well invested in doing so. even if odom does not re-sign with us, at least we will be in a comparable position regarding our cap space.
note: this deal could not be executed until september because of the trade restriction on nesterovic.
let me know what you guys think.

Re: Fell Swoop
but Rasho is playing for his national team. can't read anything negative into that absense.
still any deal that moves Tinsley, shawne and Quis at the cost of only Rasho is one swell foop.

Hello, always good to have new people here, welcome aboard! Hopefully we will see a lot more of you come time for the season. As far as this trade, did you run it through the trade checker? Does it work financially?
I really think Miami would have a problem with this. I am not sure how in love they are with Daequan Cook, but I can't imagine they would be too thrilled with giving him up and getting Tinsley in return.
In the JO/Odom rumors last year I believe Odom said he would not like to be a Pacer, and I am of the belief that having guys here than don't want to be here just creates problems. I do like Odom as a player, but if he doesn't want to be here I don't want to put up with the grief that comes along with that.
Overall though nice idea and good thought, but I would pass based on Odom and the baggage. I would not mind a Thomas for Tinsley deal straight up though.

Re: Fell Swoop
A buyout would be better. We give up two expiring contracts and a player with a lot of potential and take back two guys that teams are trying to get rid of. In fact, I think Rasho, Daniels, and Cook are the only 3 guys up there that we haven't heard rumors about as far as their teams wanting them gone. The Lakers don't think LO is worth that money and he really flopped as a PF, and Sacramento evidently is turning down deals because they're set on getting rid of Thomas at all costs. I personally see us getting more if we leave Tinsley out, and we can just tell him to stay home if he doesn't agree to a low buyout if we were unable to trade him. That would be better than overpaying two guys and getting rid of all of our chips.

Cook? Really?
When Sactown has Douby, Garcia, and Martin?
Miami gets shafted. Hard.

Sacramento turned down a deal of Stackhouse and Brandon Bass for Artest. Nesterovic, Shawne Williams, Marcus banks, & Daequan cook is not even comparable to that.

Re: Fell Swoop
okay - taking into consideration some of the criticism, i've revamped this a little:
tinsley, chris mihm, & miki moore to miami (for marcus banks & mark blount)
nesterovic, shawne williams, marcus banks, & mark blount to sacramento (for artest, kenny thomas, & miki moore)
ron artest & marquis daniels to the lakers (for odom & chris mihm)
odom & kenny thomas to the pacers (for tinsley, nesterovic, marquis daniels, & shawne williams)
http://www.realgm.com/src_checktrade.php?tradeid=4741454
i'd say this a great improvement for miami who gives up nothing they are attached to and fill their needs of a veteran point guard and center depth.
sacramento's deal probably looks a little worse, but i would definitely have picks going to them from one or more sources.
lakers throw in chris mihm - not too high of a price to avoid taking any guaranteed salaries while acquiring artest.
pacers deal is the same as before.
in reply to freeron's post (btw, love the name): i don't think a buyout (which bird has said he won't do) is better. taking on kenny thomas' contract for tinsley is preferable because thomas has a year less left on his contract and the financial savings will be higher than that achieved in a buyout. i agree that shawne "thin ice" williams has potential (and nothing against shawne, just cracking on bird's tactfulness), but i don't see him as a power forward, and i'm not sure how developing him is going to greatly benefit us when we have granger. the fact that we give up two expiring contracts is not really relevant because odom's expiring deal is of equal value. also, in odom we get a player at a position of need while giving up players who are in positions of surplus. i would definitely debate the fact that odom has "flopped as a pf." personally, i think that he is in the upper echelon of power forwards and is a great fit for our team. the great thing about this deal is that he gets a year to prove it.
